Diya jalaa kar aap bujhaaya

Posted on: September 21, 2012

Today (21 september) is the birth anniversary of Allah Wasai, popularly known as Noorjehaan (21 september 1926- 23 december 2000). She bagan her career in early 1940s as a child artist and soon graduated into adult roles as an actor-singer. She was at her peak when partition happened and she went to Pakistan, leaving the field of the leading female playback singing of Hindi movies up for grabs.

On the occasion of Noorjehaan’s birth anniversary, here is a song from “Badi Maa” (1945). This movie was a Praful Pictures production. It was produced and directed by Master Vinayak. The starcast was Noorjahan, Ishwarlal, Yakub, Meenakshi, Sitara Devi etc.

This song is sung by Noorjehaan and picturised on her as well, obviously. Zia Sarhadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by K Datta.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath.

Lyrics(Provided by Sadanand Kamath)

diyaa jalaakar aap bujhaayaa
aa aa aa aa
diyaa jalaakar aap bujhaayaa
tere kaam niraale

dil tod ke jaanewaale
dil tod ke jaanewaale
ae
diyaa jalaakar aap bujhaayaa

phool pawan aur nadi kinaaraa
phool pawan aur nadi kinaaraa
karat ishaare saanjh ka taaraa
vyaakul hai man meraa aajaa
aa aa aa aa aaja
vyaakul hai man meraa aajaa
aaaa
vyaakul hai man meraa aajaa
aaaa
o chhod ke jaanewaale
dil tod ke jaanewaale
o chhod ke jaanewaale
dil tod ke jaanewaale
diyaa jalaakar aap bujhaayaa

dol rahi hai man ki naiyyaa
aa aa aa aaa
kahaan chhupe ho aao khevaiyyaa

chhaaye baadal kaale
chhod ke jaanewaale
dil tod ke jaanewaale
ae
