This song is from the film ‘Raaz’, the year is 1967. It is a duet by Mohammed Rafi and Krishna Kalle. It is picturized on the hero Rajesh Khanna and heroine Babita. The composer is the duo Kalyanji Anandji and lyricist is Akhtar Romani. There are two unknown or should I say less known persons connected with this song. The female playback singer and the lyricist. I would have identified Krishna Kalle with the song “meri hasraton ki duniyaa” which is a duet with Rafi from the film “Gaal gulaabi nain sharaabi”, but that was before I heard this duet song from ‘Raaz’. This must be the high point and defining moment in her career where she is getting to sing a song for an ‘A’ grade MD, heroine and Film. This film has a very well known song which is posted here.

These days people fight elections to come to power and once they get a taste for it, then want to cling to it at any cost. During mythological times, the King of gods, viz Lord Indra would cling to his chair like a leech. One did not have to fight elections to come to power those days. One needed to do tapasya (penance) in a jungle for long years. Whenever a tapaswi sage would decide to go to a jungle and do “tapasya”, Lord Indra would get worried, thinking that the sage was after his chair. So he would try to disrupt the “tapasya”.

Remembering Rafi Saab on the anniversary of his passing away today. And also, remembering Dara Singh ji, who left this earthly abode, nineteen days ago, 12 July earlier this month. This song brings to mind the memories of both these stalwarts together.

Of the several signs that I am losing it now, one of the surest signs has got to be when I forget the anniversaries of people or events close to my heart.

I normally pride myself on remembering dates – in fact I surprise my friends sometimes when I mention dates of events or anniversaries that they don’t expect me to remember. These are dates that have just stuck in my mind when I first came across them, e.g. 18th May 1974 being the famous date of the Pokhran nuclear explosion . Or, 24th October 1945 being the date the United Nations (U.N) came into existence. (18th May also happens to be the birthday of one of the favourite cricketers from my childhood days – B.S. Chandrasekhar. And 24th October also happens to be the birthday of our dear memsaab (of memsaabstory.com). So see, it isn’t all that difficult to remember dates! 🙂

Rafi has sung songs for lots and lots of music directors, be they big names or unknown strugglers. I have not kept a count but I am sure that Rafi may have sung for the largest number of music directors among all major playback singers and that way he is a trivia buff’s delight.
