Jai janani jai Bharat maa
Posted on: January 26, 2013
Today (26 january 2013) is the 63rd Republic day of India. Though India had gained political freedom two years back on 15 august 1947, it was on 26 january 1950 that Indian constitution came into existence in India which defined the future course of action for this country. This document- the Indian constitution has since held the nation together and united and the country, despite facing extremely difficult challenges over the decades, has come a long way in the path of progress and development.
A lot still needs to be done and there are a lot that are still required to be addressed, but it must be said that the India of today is a far more self assured and self confident nation than what it was during the first few decades of its existence. It was on this day that India became a republic where every citizen was guaranteed equal rights. This simple sounding word “Equal rights” that many today take for granted are not just any word. It was a big leap forward for India in its long history.
The fact that we are celebrating 64th republic day of India today is a matter of great pride and happiness for all Indians, wherever they are. I take this opportunity to with a happy republic day to all.
For this blog, it is the fifth republic day. We have seen five independence days too. The fact that this blog has survived this long and is progressing, just like India- shows that we too have adopted certain guiding principles for ourselves in this blog that we observe and hold dear to us. These guiding principles (all unwritten) being- respect for all, giving credit where it is due, being open to new ideas and contrary views, being prepared to share knowledge and information etc etc.
Most well known patriotic songs that we all get to watch and hear on these occasions have already been didscussed during the past ten such occasions, but we still have quite a few (lesser known) patriotic songs still remaining. We will discuss some of them today.
Here is a song from “Dharmputra” (1961). This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and it is picturised as a stage song, where Shashi Kapoor, playing a college student, sings this partiotic song from the dias of his college function, and the audience join him.
Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by N Datta.
It is the eighth song from this movie to appear in the blog. I wonder if a few songs from this movie still remain to be discussed. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw mre light on this matter.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.
Song-Jai janani jai Bharat Maa (Dharmputra)(1961) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-N Datta
Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
Baghaawat ka khula paigham
deta hoon
jawaano ko
arre utho
uthhkar mitaa do tum
ghulami ke nishaanon ko,
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
uthho gangaa ki godi se
uthho Satluj ke saahil se
uthho Dakkhan ke seene se
Utho bangal ke dil se
nikaalo apni dharti se
videshi hukmraanon ko
uthho
uthhkar mitaa do tum ghulaami
ke nishaanon ko
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
khizaan ki qaid se ujada chaman
aazad karna hai,
hamen apni zameen apna watan
aazaad karna hai,
jo gaddari sikhaye kheench lo
Unki zabaanon ko,
uthho
uthhkar mitaa do tum
ghulami ke nishaanon ko,
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
yeh saudaagar jo is dharti pe
kabzaa kar ke baithe hain,
hamaare khoon se
apne khazaane bhar ke baithe hai
inhe keh do ki ab waapas kare
saare khazaanon ko,
uthho
uthhkar mitaa do tum
ghulaami ke nishaanon ko,
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
jo in kheton ka daana
dushmanon ke kaam aana hai,
jo in khaano ka sona
ajnabi deshon ko jaana hai,
to phoonko saari faslon ko,
jala do saari khaano ko,
uthho
uthhkar mitaa do tum
ghulami ke nishaanon ko,
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
Jai janani jai bharat maa
bahut jhelin ghulami ki balaayein,
ab na jhelenge,
bahut jhelin ghulaami ki balayein,
ab na jhelenge,
chadhhenge phaansiyon par
goliyon se hans ke khelenge,
chadhenge phaansiyon par
goliyon se hans ke khelenge
unhi par mod denge unki
topon ke dahaanon ko,
unhi par mod denge unki
topon ke dahaanon ko,
uthho
uthkar mitaado
tum ghulami ke nishaanon ko

Thanks Atul ji for the post , and a write up that is truly a ‘leader’s’ message -(i am deliberately avoiding the word ‘president’) , (as Arun ji has rightly put in his poem) – for our ‘Musical – Republic’ !!!
Thanks and wishing all our team members, readers and well wishers a very happy Republic Day !!!

wonderful song. very well written, very well sung and wery well prsented. A small correction. ‘khizaan ki qued se ujra vatan’ should be ‘khizaan ke qued se ujra chaman.’
