This is one more duet by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle from the film ‘Kaise Kahoon’. The music for this film is composed by S D Burman and lyricist is Shakeel Badayuni. These two have worked together in very few films. I know of only two i.e ‘Benazir’ and this film, both released in the year 1964.
The duet I am discussing is picturized on Biswajeet and Nanda, separately. Biswajeet’s part is happy and Nanda’s part is sad. So this song is fit for ‘Happy-sad song’ tag. This movie is actually full of Lata Mangeshkar solos., like the title song ‘kaise kahoon tose jiya ki main batiyaan’ , tum hamen pyaar karo ya na karo’ & ‘haule haule jiyaa dole’. I have the lyrics of all three songs noted down and shall sent them one by one, lest Atul ji misplaces them 🙂 because all three are precious Lata Solos.
In this song it is Asha Bhosle singing for Nanda with Rafi on Biswajeet. Three songs from this movie are posted and this is the duet is fourth. The songs are not all that popular, at least I was not familiar with them before I saw some on this blog and on youtube. But as it is usually true with S. D. Burman scores, all of them are quality song. By now having seen so many songs from the movie, I can guess that Nanda is in love with Biswajeet, who has fallen for Naaz(?) seen in the song Saaz e dil pe koyi geet ga.
By the number of number of songs Nanda is singing, it is a tearjerker-social movie. Biswajeet is either a house guest or a relative of Nanda in the movie because they appear to be in the same house. That is convenient for Nanda to fall in love with Biswajeet and Biswajeet is oblivious to her feelings, treating her as a glorified servant.

I liked this movie. It was kind of sweet and uncomplicated. Plus my mother played a short role in it. That of teacher who coaches Biswajeet in lip-reading.

Nice number and different to hear both the sad and happy version in one song. The tune reminds me of a song.. “Ghar Se Nikalte Hee” from the 1996 movie “Papa Kehte Hain”.
