Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Hari bin kaise jiyun ri

Posted on: March 20, 2013

“Guddi” (1971) was produced by N C Sippy and Hrishikesh Mukherji and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji. The movie had Samit Bhanj, Jaya Bhaduri, Asrani, Sunita Sanyal, Vijay Sharma, A K Hangal, Keshto Mukherjee, Chandra,, Lalita Kumari, Utpal Dutt, Bhagwan etc with Dharmendra in guest appearance.

Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past and both were iconic songs viz. Bole re papeehara and Hamko man ki shakti dena.

Here is another song from the movie. This song is sung by Vani Jairam. Gulzar is the lyricist and music is composed by Vasant Desai.
[Ed Note: This bhajan is originally authored by Sant Meerabai.]

Only the audio of this song is available. If the picturisation of other Vani Jairam songs is anything to go by, then one can guess that this song is pictiurised on Jaya Bhaduri. I request our nowledgeable readers to help confirm/ refute my guess about ther picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Peevesie’s mom.

With this song, all the songs of “Guddi” (1971) have now been covered in the blog. Just three songs discussed and all songs are covered ! Indeed, that is how it is sometimes even in Hindi movies. 🙂

This is just for the information,
At the end of the movie Guddi, they have used Lata song from Madhumati “Aa Jaa re, pardesi, main toh kab se khadi iss paar, ye akhiyaan, thak gayee panth nihaar”
(picturised on Jaya Bhaduri)

you are right about the presence of this song in “Guddi” then we can say that “tujhe jeevan ki dor se baandh liya hain” is also from Guddi with Dharamendra holding a tree and swaying.

I am not very sure about this fact, but I had read somewhere that thinking that the above posted song was replaced by Madhumati song at the climax . Please correct me If I am wrong. This may be my fertile imagination, but I have read somewhere that producers thought that the bhajan “Hari bin kaise” may not jell with the audience as a climax song.

That is absolutely correct. This song was supposed to be sung by Jaya at the end (in her birthday party), but was replaced by the Madhumati song.
