Today we remember Feroze Nizami on the anniversary of his passing away. His familiar image in the minds of many people it that of a music director and composer. There are fabulous creations that stand testimony to his talents as a master of music. What is lesser known is the fact that Feroze Nizami Sb was a multi faceted and a multi talented personality. He was an exceptional singer himself, in the mold of classical singing. He was also a writer, and an acknowledged expert and teacher of music. His book, ‘Asraar e Mauseeqi’, a definitive work on classical music written in Urdu, remained a standard textbook on the subject in Punjab University (Lahore) for many decades. He was a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines, writing research papers and articles on music. In addition, he was very learned in the field of Sufi literature. Another book by him, ‘Sar-chasma e Hayaat’, is a famous and oft referred work on this subject. He was well learned in the fields of Homoeopathy, Philosophy, and yes, Hindu religion.

It is now the turn of redoubtable Lata Mangeshkar to feature in the series. This again is a duet which was lying in the my Drafts folder for sometime. Mukesh started his filmy career in Hindi film industry as an actor-singer in ‘Nirdosh’ (1941). But it was his song dil jaltaa hai to jalne de in ‘Pehli Nazar’ (1945) which paved the way for him to become a successful playback singer. Somehow, Mukesh seemed to have been beaten by the acting bug. He acted in films like ‘Aah’ (1953), ‘Maashooqa’ (1953) and in his own production ‘Anuraag’ (1956). He had also produced two films – ‘Malhar’ (1951) which was a success in the box office. However, he did not act in this film. His second film as producer was ‘Anuraag’ (1956) in which he also acted in a lead role and composed music for the film. The film was a flop. With this, his foray into acting as well as music directin in Hindi films came to an end.

Two days ago, I had posted one song from a film that is very obscure –‘Jawahar’ (1960). The song I had posted was for the birth anniversary of Dwijen Mukhopadhyay. And I had written in the article that I have no additional information about this film. The same day, Kirit ji Bhatt almost immediately added the comment, appreciating the upload and requesting for another song from the same film. Ah, that give me encouragement that listeners in our friend circle do remember even the obscure films, because of the songs and music.
