The Many Colors of Love #22 – Dwelling in the Lover’s Eyes

oooo
meri aankhon mein bas gaya koi re
mohey neend naa aaye main kyaa karun

This is bound to happen one day, when one is in love. The beloved has taken the occupancy of the heart, and is present in every thought. Slowly but surely, the ethereal presence that is felt within the heart and inside the being, that has taken over the mind and its thoughts, finds its way into the vision. An image crystallizes in the mind and gets superimposed on the image screen in the eyes. One may be looking at anything, in any direction, this superimposed image is the prominent perception that is registered in the eyes. The eyes and mind play a tandem game of throw-and-catch, keeping the image of the beloved present in forefront always.

So is born the concept and the experience of daydreaming. Wherever you may be looking, and whatever you may be viewing, the images of the beloved, from the many encounters, both real as well as imaginary, will crowd out every other thing from field of vision. And the lover simply has this experience – “Jidhar Bhi Mein Dekhoon, Udhar Tu Hi Tu Hai”.

This new insubstantial occupant of the eyes and the vision not just forces out the awareness of the world around oneself; it also evicts another tenant of the eyes, and that is sleep. The time of the night, when earlier one used to so peacefully and comfortably be sleeping, is now taken over by sleeplessness and wakefulness. The relaxing tides of sleep in the eyes are now exchanged with the images of the beloved. By the time morning comes around, the lover has only one refrain to give – “Karwaten Badalte Rahe Saari Raat Hum. . .”. And when asked what has happened, the coy answer is “Neend Kabhi Rehti Thi Aankhon Mein, Ab Rehte Hain Saanwariyaa” .

Kya kya rang, kya kya jalwe dikhata hai ye pyaar. Aah, so varied are the phenomena and the experiences that this feeling of love will bring about and manifest in life. The beloved may or may not be near, but the image of the beloved is forever persisting in the vision hallways of the mind. And the lover. . . is compelled to sing out these words – “tum aise basey morey nain, ki ab kachhu soojhat naahin”.

This fabulous Rafi song is from the 1972 film ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’. And the quality of the melody is further underscored by the fact that it is a creation from the mind of the gifted prodigy, Ganesh. Lyrics are from the pen of Majrooh Sb. On screen, the song is performed by Jagdeep. He is serenading a seemingly willing Naazneen. There is a group of child actors also on the scene. I have not seen the film, so cannot comment on the segment of the storyline that is being enacted here. As the song progresses, the team of siblings is quietly removing all items of furniture from the room. It appears as if the apparent willingness of Naazneen to go along being the object of attention by Jagdeep, is designed to take his attention away from the fact that things from the room are being removed, as he is busy with the one he fancies to be his lady love. And he is so lost in the one who now dwells in his eyes that he is completely unaware of everything else transpiring around him, including the loss of property that is happening right under his nose. Aah. . . the pleasures and the vagaries of being in love.

So another enchanting Ganesh melody comes up today. Lovely song.

Listen and enjoy.

Thank you very much, Sudhir ji for the nice song which I do not remember at all having heard earlier.
I agree with your description of Ganesh as a prodigy. After all, he had the necessary pedigree, belonging to the same illustrious family which had given us Lakshmikant, his elder brother.
As a very recent entrant to ASAD, I do not know whether his career had been detailed in a post earlier. If I recall correctly, he burst upon the HFM scene with a very fresh approach in ‘Daku Mangal Singh’ a ‘C’ grade stunt film in 60s.
I wonder why he faded away so soon from the public memory and HFM scene. Like so many other gifted composers before and after him, I feel he deserved a better deal and a longer time span to showcase his full talent.

Avadhlaji,
It is nothing but fear of getting overshadowed by the brilliance of an individual which forces others to conspire the downfall. It is dog bite dog in HFM. Here it could be the more illustrious brother or some one else. yaha sab HFM hai>Har Fan Maula.
