“Pyaar Ki Kahaani”(1971) was directed by Ravi Nagaich for Vijaylaxmi Pictures, Madras. The movie had Tanuja, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Dhawan, Farida Jalal, Prem Chopra, Bipin Gupta, Madhu Chanda, Agha, Mukri, Mohan Choti, Praveen Paul, Yunus Parwez, Krishnakant, Birbal, Hanumanthachari, Ranga Reddy, Nadir, Mamaji, Akhtar, Bihari, Pandey, Puranik, Gulshan Bawra etc in it.

Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

Here is the third song from the movie.

This song is a duet which is sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

This is a song that was very popular during its time. Though I enjoyed listening to this song a lot, I had no idea about the details of the song except its singers.

It is only now, some 43 years later that I have come to know that this song was from “Pyaar Ki Kahaani”(1972). and it is after 43 years that I got to listen to this song again. In fact I got to watch the picturisation of the song for the first time. The picturisation shows Farida Jalal and Anil Dhawan (lip syncing in the voices of Lata and Kishore Kumar respectively) teasing Amitabh Bachchan about his soon to take place wedding. The picturisation of the song is cute. Those were the days when Amitabh Bachchan was strugging to find his feet in the movie industry. Anil Dhawan in fact was considered a bigger name than him in the film industry those days. Tnhe fact that this movie flopped did not help Amitabh Bachchan’s career either.

But know, 43 years later, we can look back at such movies and such songs and enjoy them that much more. Unlike the movie, this song has a timeless quality about it even if it has been more or less forgotten by now.

This is such a cute song. Used to play on the radio during the 70s.
