Hullo Atuldom

There are so many possible songs to go with today’s post. Songs that will do justice to the personality and versatile talent of the concerned celebrity.
He was an actor born with acting in his genes. He was not a star-kid but a star-heir, facing the camera for the first time when he was barely 2 or 3 years old. He was seen next as an adolescent playing his father’s Bachpan. All that I have written are well known facts about this actor, who in later years turned a producer-director much like his father. Along with his brothers he tried to keep the studio and banner, set up by his showman father, aloft till 2017 when the iconic property in Mumbai’s Chembur area caught fire and collapsed during the shoot of a television reality show. The brothers then decided to pull down the shutters on a piece of history of Indian cinema.

Regular movie-buffs will know that I am speaking of Raj Kapoor’s sons- Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv and the RK Films and RK Studios. The last movie that came from this banner was “Aa Ab Laut Chalen” (1999) which was directed by Rishi Kapoor. Before that “Prem Granth” (1996) which was directed by Rajiv Kapoor and “Henna” (1991) directed by Randhir Kapoor were the offerings from RK Films both of which had Rishi Kapoor playing the central character.

As I mentioned above Rishi Kapoor had acting in his genes with all the males (before him) from his family, being in the entertainment industry -Prithviraj Kapoor (grandfather), Raj Kapoor (father) Shammi Kapoor & Shashi Kapoor (uncles). Chintu (as Rishi Kapoor used to be addressed fondly) had shared screen space with his uncles and has been directed by his father in a few movies. I doubt if has appeared in any movie with his niece- Karisma and Kareena; but he has acted with his son Ranbir which was incidentally his wife Neetu’s comeback to movies, after she quit the limelight for family life.

The last movie that he faced the camera for, post his return from USA after undergoing treatment for the dreaded C, released on an OTT channel on 31st March 2022. I happened to see this for the love of Chintu and I must say ‘I was not disappointed’.

Chintu was one actor who had always emoted well and things were not any different in “Sharmaji Namkeen”. The unique thing about the film was the way they had two actors play a single character. Maybe a first in Indian movies. Actually, there was about four days shoot left, of the movie, at the time of Chintu’s passing. Paresh Rawal stepped in and the movie was completed. The makers didn’t re-shoot the parts which Chintu had completed. Instead, the transition in the scenes with the two actors was kept seamless and they didn’t try to get a single person to dub for the two actors (both actors spoke in their own voice). I would love to see the movie all over again just to enjoy the smooth handling of the movie. It had all the trademark stuff that fans of Chintu loved him for including the sweaters and mufflers that he was famous for.

Much as I would like to share a song from “Sharmaji Namkeen” in this post I am settling for one of his popular numbers from the ’70s. (Link to Sharmaji songs is not yet available on Youtube).

Today’s song may well be one of those categorized as “How come this song was not posted earlier?”. It features Chintu with Neetu Singh and is written by Gulshan Bawra. Kalyanji Anandji are the music directors of this song that is sung by Shailendra Singh and Asha Bhonsle.

This movie, “Rafoo Chakkar” (1975), was directed by Narinder Bedi and produced by House of Nadiadwalas. It had Faryal, Asrani, Paintal, Rajindernath, Sulochana, Mumtaz Begum, Madan Puri, Anwar Hussain, Shetty, Kamran, etc in addition to the lead pair of Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor. It had six songs of which the blog has the following four.

Song Date of posting
Chhu chhuk chhak chhak Bombay se Baroda tak 4 September 2012
Dil lena buri bala hai 22 August 2013
Tumko mere dil ne pukaara hai 21 January 2014
Bhajan bina chain na aaye Raam 30 June 2020

Let us enjoy the locales of Kashmir and remember how simple life was back in the 70s. The girl needed to educate the guy ‘what love was all about’ 🙂

Song-Kisi pe dil agar aa jaaye to kya hota hai (Rafoo Chakkar)(1975) Singers-Shailendra Singh, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Gulshan Baawra, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

kisi pe dil agar aa jaaye to kya hota hai
kisi pe dil agar aa jaaye to kya hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai
koi dil pe agar chha jaaye to kya hota hai

wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai

mujhko zulfon ke saaye mein so jaane do sanam
mujhko zulfon ke saaye mein so jaane do sanam
ho raha hai jo dil mein ho jaane do sanam
ho raha hai jo dil mein ho jaane do sanam

baat dil ki dil mein rah jaaye to phir kya hota hai
baat dil ki dil mein rah jaaye to phir kya hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoo e khuda hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai

kisi pe dil agar aa jaaye to kya hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai

kya manzoor hai khuda ko baataao to zara
kya manzoor hai khuda ko bataao to zara

jaan jaaogi, baahon mein aa jaao to zara
jaan jaaogi, baahon mein aa jaao to zara
koi jo baahon mein aa jaaye to phir kya hota hai
koi jo baahon mein aa jaaye to phir kya hota hai

wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai
kisi pe dil agar aa jaaye to kya hota hai
kisi pe dil agar aa jaaye to kya hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai
wahi hota hai jo manzoor e khuda hota hai

Thanks for this post and specially this song. Because it was pending to be posted and many times I thought to take it, but I had already shared the other duet earlier and one with post already.
Wished that somebody should take this. Thanks,
Our tributes to Rishi Kapoor. He was always around us when we were growing.

Nice remembrance post for Rishi Kapoor. The housing project at the location is named RK studio with the RK emblem as its insignia. This means, the brothers sold the right for the usage of the name and emblem also. A piece of history is done away with. Once upon a time the holi celebration at the RK studio was a big event, as big as the filmfare award function. Every year we used to wait for the newspapers next day for photos of all the big stars at the holi celebrations held at RKs.

I had never been to the area, but travelled through many times. In December 19, I went there to attend a wedding reception held right next to the RK gate. All we could do is get some selfies, so we did that and came back.

The Holi and Ganesh Festival of RK Studios were legendary. For a brief period in my life, I have lived within walking distance of RK Studio and RK’s Bungalow. The Sion Trombay road (RK Studios’ location) used to come alive on Ganesh Visarjan day. The gates of the studio used to be open for one and all to have a darshan of their Ganesh Pandal.
Rk Studio’s neighbour -Shrikant Studio was the first to become a garage for car repair. There was on more studio in that line which also closed down in the 80s

For all my love for Rishi Kapoor (don’t want to add ‘Late’), I haven’t watched Sharmaji Namkeen yet. Kapoor & sons, 101 not out, Do dooni char….a few of the comparatively recent films, I watched 3 or 4 times, just for Rishi Kapoor.
Since the writer and the readers of this blog are movie buffs, I would like to mention…..
Matichya Chuli (2006) had Sudhir Joshi playing the character Shripad Dandekar. However, due to his demise mid-way of the film making, Anand Abhyankar replaced him. Later , Anand Abhyankar played an ad film maker in another Marathi movie called Maat (2013). When a very small part of shooting was left, Anand died in a car accident. However, the director decided to end the character in the movie without replacing him.
Since the article says ‘Indian Movies’ I felt I can share this info.

Thank You so much for the information on “Matichya Chuli” and “Maat”. That makes it two more movies in my “to been seen list”
