It was 29 days ago (on 9 January 2026) that we had reached blog song post number 19800. That song post also happened to be 300th duets of Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. If 300 duets of a pair of singers is an enormous achievement then what will we say about twice that number of duets ? 600 duets !! That is a mind boggling mind numbing number of duets. This feat is achieved by Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhonsle in the blog.
When one looks at the list of duets sung by them, one wonders if any of their duets are still left to be covered. Let us look at some of their duets that have already been showcased in the blog:-
One can keep adding duet songs after duet songs to the above list till we include almost every duet that Rafi and Asha Bhonsle may have sung together. So after a while, I gave up.
When it was time to chose a duet song, the 600th of the duo, I was spoiled for choice. They still have lots and lots of duets that are not yet covered. In the process of selecting a duet song for the occasion, I looked at their earlier duets that are not yet covered. Rafi and Asha Bhonsle first sand duets in 1949, in “Lekh” and “Roomaal”, followed by “Baawre Nain”(1950). “Jauhari”(1951) has a duet that is their oldest duet that is not yet covered in the blog. Video of that song is vailable, but the audio quality is poor so I did not consider that song. One can keep looking for their songs but that would be a time consuming process. S I decided that instead of poring over all the songs are shortlisting some of them, I should simply pick a song that sounds suitable for the occasion.
After listening to several contenders, I have finally zeroed in on a song that turns out to be a rare song. No, it is not an old song, rather it is one of the last songs that Rafi may have sung. This song was from a movie that remained unreleased.
This song is from unreleased movie “Secret Agent”(UR)(1987). What is known about this movie is that it had music by Bappi Lahiri and lyrics of the songs were penned by Farooque Kaiser. Five songs of this movie were released in 1987. The album had one Asha Bhonsle solo and one Rafi solo. There were three duets that were sung by Asha Bhonsle with Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Bappi Lahiri.
This Rafi-Asha Bhonsle duet from “Secret Agent”(UR)(1987) is the song that I have chosen to be the 19900th song for the blog. This song happens to be the 600th Rafi-Asha Bhonsle duet in the blog. This duo is head and shoulders above the rest as far as singing duets is concerned. Exactly how many duets they have sung is something that needs some research. Will they reach another century of duets ? That will be interesting to watch.
The music of the song is archtypical Bappi Lahiri music that sounds familiar, but it is the lyrics of the song that makes it a wonderful song to listen to. The song is written by Bambaiyya tapori language. Had this song seen a proper release then it would have definitely become a popular song.
So, here is this song, that marks the19900th song in the blog and 600th Rafi-Asha Bhonsle duet in the blog.
With this, song, now weare just 100 songs short of 20000 songs in the blog. We should be there in another 30 days or so. That should be one of the biggest landmarks for the blog.
There days we are making good progress where 100 plus songs are being clocked every month. The blog now boasts of impressive statistics viz 20000 song posts from 5185 movies, 1558 of them having been YIPPEED. Bulk of songs of major artists are already represented in the blog and now we are on the verge of touching many milestones that seemed beyond reach in the past. Being slow and steady and regular is paying off. This blog is a shining example of online collaboration by likeminded music lovers. One can readily notice that most contributions these days are by “guest” posters, a term that needs to be revised I feel.
I take this opportunity to thank one and all. After this post, we take fresh guard and continue this musical journey. Let us hope this this musical bandwagon will keep going on and on for a long time.

Heartiest CONGRATULATIONS Atulji.
This is a Double Dhamaka post (as usual) with 2 landmarks in it. 19900 blog + 600 Rafi – Asha duets. and I feel proud to be a part of this bandwagaon.
We promise to be part of this journey , waiting to see post number 20000. Wonder what the song number & movie number will be by then considering that we have 20000 song posts from 5185 movies.

Congratulations for touching 19900 songs landmark. The day of celebration for 20000 songs is not far away now.
I was surprised to see today’s song.
Congratulations for 600 songs of Asha and Rafi. As per a book ” Rafinama ” by Isaq Mujawar, they have sung 806 duets.
Awaiting now for THE long awaited milestone of 20K.
