#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # # Dhan Daulat-1980#

The song under discussion in this post if from ‘Dhan Daulat-1980’.

This song is a typical 1970 style song where the man threatens to commit suicide if his lady love does not respond to his expression of love. This threat is issued publicly with lots of people gathered around the hero and watching the spectacle.

Threat of commiting suicide by jumping from the overhead water tank is not given here, apparently for want of an overhead water tank nearby. But it seems that a rail track is available near the residence of the lady Shanti (Neetu Singh), so the hero Lucky (Rishi Kapoor) threatens to commit suicide by getting run over by a train on the track.

The song is sung by Kishore Kumar, with a few words uttered by Master Raju, who plays the younger brother of Shanti and he serves as the messenger between the two love birds.

‘Dhan Daulat-1980’, a social movie was produced by Vinod Shah and directed by Harish Shah for ‘Shilpkar, Bombay’. The cast of this movie has Rajendra Kumar, Mala Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Prem Chopra, Premnath, Pran, Sujit Kumar, Madan Puri, Agha, Sajjan, Kirti Kumar, Azad, Ranveer Raj, Shyam, Amal Sen, Amarnath Mukherjee, Birbal, Yusuf Khan, Master Sandeep and others. Kader Khan, Daljeet Kaur, Preeti Ganguly, Asit Sen, Jagdish Raj etc. Master Raju had a guest appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 07.01.1980. Story of this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick and its dialogues were written by Sagar Sarhadi.

As mentioned by me earlier the story of this movie ‘Dhan Daulat-1980’ offers nothing new and it is a familiar story that we have watched in many Hindi movies. Here is the story of this movie in brief:-

Raj Saxena (Rajendra Kumar) and Vasudha (Mala Sinha) love each other and want to marry. But Raj’s parents oppose to it and Raj is forced to abandon Vasudha, but he is not aware that she is pregnant. Vasudha gives birth to a male child and leaves him in a truck as she gets down to bring milk for him, but before she can return the truck drivers start the truck and Vasudha is left behind (so this child grows as ‘truck ka phool and not ‘dhool ka phool’). The truck driver duo Mangat (Premnath) and Bajirao (Pran) bring this child to their home and look after him dreaming of growing up him to a good person. They give him a name ‘Lucky’. Mangat is a ‘Punjabi’ and Bajirao is ‘Marathi’, so lucky grows up calling both in their languages and speaking either a Punjabi-Marathi or Marathi-Punjabi combination and this continues till the movie ends. Well, Lucky grows up as a street-boy and do all mischievous things, be it his studies or in general in and around home (as is typical for a ‘Bombay-street-boy’ Hindi film hero then).

One day Shanti (Neetu Singh) is passing through Lucky’s house where he is locked by his father duo, but Shanti didn’t help him out. Now Lucky is after Shanti and soon develops a liking for her. Meanwhile Lucky comes to know that he was adopted by Mangat and Bajirao and they are not his parents. Vasudha also hears their conversation but could not come into open and telling Lucky that she is his mother. Lucky understands that he needs to earn money ‘by any way’ to be a successful person and to marry Shanti and took the revenge of his insult by Shanti’s father. He had once stolen the horse of Sujit Chopra (Prem Chopra) to impress Shanti. After knowing this Sujit got interested in Lucky. Lucky joins hands with Sujit Chopra who is in the business of ‘illegal businesses’ to amass wealth. Sujit Chopra and Raj Saxena are business rivals. So, as it happens the circumstances in this movie make the son pitted against his father till finally the truth is dawned upon him and everything gets well in the end and the family reunites with Lucky getting ‘four fathers’ including the father-in-law(Madan Puri) who happily gave his daughter’s hand in the hands of Lucky.

‘Dhan Daulat-1980’ has five songs, which were all written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by Rahul Dev Burman. Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Master Raju had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Four songs from this movie have already been posted on the blog.

Two songs from this movie are typical ‘chaalu songs’ that were common many ‘masaalaa-entertainer’ movies of those days. One such song of genre was ‘ho jaaye phir us din kaa jo waadaa hai’ which was covered a few days ago.

The above mentioned song was the first song to appear in this movie. The song under discussion in the post is the second song to appear in the movie. After these two chaalu songs, the three songs that follow contain more serious and meaningful lyrics.
These songs, in the order of their appearance in the movie are
jeenaa kyaa ajee pyaar binaa’, ‘wo jinkee nayee hai duniyaa’ and ‘shikwaa na koi tumse naa tumpe hai koi zor’.

Four out of five songs from this movie have already been covered on the blog.

This song is the fifth and final song from the movie. With this song, all the songs from this movie get covered on the blog.

Let us now enjoy this fun light hearted song and welcome ‘Dhan Daulat-1980’ to the list of YIPPEED movies in the blog.
