Alphabetical list of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice- Part XVIII

(Actresses whose name begin with the letter T)

In the first seventeen episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first ninteen letters of the alphabet (A to S) and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. There were no actresses with these letters who lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice and so we omittted these letters from our discussion.

In the previous episode, we took up the letter S. That letter S was a blockbuster letter as it threw up 70 plus actresses who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.

The “new” actresses who made their debuts in the blog (as far as lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice is concerned) in the earlier posts of this series were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya, Chandrakala,Divya Bharati, Ekta, Farheen, Gulnar Irani, Harsha Mehra, Isha Koppikar, Jasmine, Khushboo, Laila, Madhavi, Namita Chandra, Pratibha Sinha, Roshni and Sheeba.

Unlike the previous letter S, this letter T gives us very few actresses who can be counted on one’s finger tips. I had to scrape the bottom of the barrel and even then I could list only 9 actresses whose names begin with T and who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.

Here are the details of these nine T actressses in the format that we have set up for this series:-

Name of ActressAsha Bhonsle Song lip synced by the actressName of movie (year)Remarks
Actresses whose name begins with “T”
TanujaBaagh mein kali khili(Chaand aur Suraj)(1965)Chaand Aur Suraj (1965)28 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Tanuja are available in the blog
Tarla MehtaNazar milaayi to duniya se darna kyaa (Ek Ke Baad Ek)Ek Ke Baad Ek(1960)This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Tarla Mehta in the blog
TuntunAji biwi ko ghar pe bithhlaa ke (Minister)Minister (1959)This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Tuntun in the blog
TabassumGun gun gaaun hawaa mein lehraaun (Zimbo Finds A Son)Zimbo finds a son (1966)This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Tabassum in the blog

TamannaGulbadan aa gayee lo aa gayee (Alibaba Marjina)Alibaba Marzina(1977)2 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Tamanna are available in the blog

TanurikaDil lagaane ko dil jab Raamjee ne diya (Hai Golmaal in white House)Hai Golmaal in white House (2015)This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Tanurika in the blog
Twinkle KhannaTeree badmaashiyaan aur mereee kamzoriyaan (Zulmi)Zulmee (1999)This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Twinkle Khanna in the blog

We observe that only two of the above actresses (Tanuja and Tina Munim) had long and important enough careers to lip sync several songs in the voice of Asha Bhonsle. Other actresses barely had one or two songs of Asha Bhonsle picturised on them.

I was smugly confident that I had the name of a “new” actress whose name began with T and who had not yet figured in the blog while lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s song. But when I went through the list of songs that Prakashchandra had sent me, it turned out that the only T actress in the list sent by him was Twinkle Khanna. But an Asha Bhonsle song lip synced by Twinkle Khanna was sent by Sadanand Kamath jee and that had got published as well. So now I was in trouble. I could not muster the courage to contact Prakashchandra for another T actress, thinking that I had let him down. 🙂

I decided to try and search for a T actress myself. I thought of female names starting with T and carried out google search. In most cases I drew a blank. Then I thought of the bname Tara and searched. I found that there was an actress called Tara Sharma and she had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in “Page 3″(2005). I heaved a sigh of relief. I was saved by the skin of the teeth I thought. 🙂 I published that post.

A few minutes later, I got a call from Peevesie’s mom, who broke the news to me that the song was not picturised on Tara Sharma but on Hrishita Bhatt. So, I withdrew that post and desperately started searching for another post picturised on an actress whose name begins with T. A few minutes later Peevesie’s mom called excitedly informing me that she had located a song picturised on Tisca Chopra. This time it was my turn to pour cold waters on her enthusiasm, informing her that Tisca Chopa had already figured in the blog by her earlier screen name of Priya Arora. She considered a few other T actresses of 1990s but no one had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice.

While Peevesie’s mom promised to continue her search, I too independently started searching. After futile search for newer actresses, I thought of searching old actresses. That is where I hit the jackpot and was narrowly saved.

It turns out that T R Rajkumari, who has appeared in the blog in several South Indian movies dubbed into Hindi, while lip syncing in the voice of other female singers, including Uma Devi (who figures as Tuntun in the above list) but she had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. It turns out that “Manohar”(1954), a Hindi movie dubbed from Tamil Original “Manohara” had one Asha Bhonsle song which was lip synced by T R Rajkumari in the dubbed movie “Manohar”(1954). What a big slice of luck for me ! It is possibly the only occasion when T R Rajkumari lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice.

Tamil movie “Manohara”(1954) was directed by L V Prasad and written by M Karunanidhi. The movie had Sivaji Ganesan, T. R. Rajakumari, P. Kannamba,Girija etc in it. The movie was simultaneously shot in Telugu with the same title. As for Hindi, the title was modified to “Manohar” and it was dubbed into Hindi. Original Tamil version had music by S. V. Venkatraman and T. R. Ramanathan. Hindi songs were composed by Salil Chaudhary and Hindi lyrics were penned by Vishwamitra Adil. Nine Tamil songs of original movie were replaced by nine Hindi songs that were sung by Lata Mangeshkar (2 songs),Sandhya Mukherjee (4 songs), Shamshad Begam (1 song) and Asha Bhonsle (one song). Hemant Kumar and T R Moti were the two male playback singers who figured in one duet each.

So we notice that Asha Bhonsle had just one song and to our good fortune, she got to sing for T R Rajkumari.

Here is this song which is sung by Asha Bhonsle.Vishwamitra Adil is the lyricist. Music is composed by Salil Chaudhary. This song is picturised on T R Rajkumari who is seen waking up Sivaji Ganeshan.

With this song, the letter T is done and dusted. The next letter is U. There, the number of actresses get even lesser. Thankfully this time I have a “new” actress available for sure who can be featured in that episode of this series.

For now let us enjoy this song from as far back as 1954. It is easily the oldest song in the series and it is lip synced by an actress who for a change was senior to Asha Bhonsle by a full decade.

I am very happy to see the T-instalment of the series. This post sounds like a Hitchcock movie. Kone kone me twist!

You mention Twinkle Khanna in the post but don’t put her in the list, any reason for that? Another thing which confused me is the name of Tarla Mehta in the song “Nazar milaayi to duniyaa se darnaa kyaa”. Isn’t it Sharada in the song? As far as I could gather, Tarla Mehta plays the other heroine in the film, who is the sister-in-law of Dev Anand’s character in the film. According to the synopsis of the film Ek Ke Baad Ek (1960) on Wikipedia, she passes away midway through the film.

Thank you for the entertaining article and the melodious song.

I forgot to include Twinkle Khanna in the list of actresses. Now I have included her in the list.

Tarla is the heroine of “Shola Aur Shabnam”. I compared the heroine of “Shola Aur Shabnam” with the actress lip syncing in the song “Nazar milaayi to duniya se darna kya”. Both actresses appear the same to me. I request our other experts to clarify the identity of this actress.

Atul jee,

The actress is Sharda. I have matched her images that are available on line from the film where she is identified as Sharda. Tarla Mehta plays the role of sister-in-law of Dev Anand in the film. So on that count also, the actress can not be Tarla Mehta.

By the way, your have already included this song in ‘S’ where actress is identified as Sharda (Sr.).

Sharda is the elder sister of Vinod Mehra.
