Today (8 November 2026) is Deepawali, the festival of Lights. On every deepawali, we have covered a few Deepawali related songs. The first deepawali for the blog fell on 28 October 2008. Five songs were covered on that day. The final song of the day was Rangoli sajaao(Rangoli)(1962). This was a Deppawali song and so this song had the distinction of becoming the first Deepawali song in the blog.
18 years have passed from that date. Today we are celebrating the 19th Deepavali festival in the blog. 43 Deepavali related songs have been covered in the blog over the years. Almost all known and unknown Deepavali songs of the past years have been covered in the past. So musch so that finding a “new” song for the occasion is becoming a challenge for me. Today I decided to search for a Deepavali song. I visited youtube and searched for Deepavali festival songs from Hindi movies. I found that every song that I came across was already covered in the blog. I listened to Vividh Bharati. The songs being played there were also covered in the blog. Then I checked up the Deepavali songs played in Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation today. They had played 11 Deepavali song today. Each and every one of them is there in the blog.
There were some non film songs on youtube but my preference is to cover songs from movies.
It is in the afternoon that I am able to locate a song that shows deepawali being celebrated, even though only in the first stanza. I suppose we will have to make do with that. They do not make songs devoted fully to Deepavali festival these days.
This song is from “Sooryavansham”(1999). It was a remake of Tamil movie Surya Vamsam(1997). It was produced by G Adisheshagiri Rao and directed by directed by E. V. V. Satyanarayana for Padmalaya Combines. The movie had Amitabh Bachchan (double role), Soundarya, Jayasudha, Rachna Banerjee, Anupam Kher,Kader Khan etc in it.
The movie had eight songs in it including a multiple version song.
Here is the first song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song, which features Deepawali celebration in the first stanza, is sung by Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal. Sameer is the lyricist. Music is composed by Anu Malik.
The song covers a good duration of time span in the movie. I could see Amitabh Bachchan (double role) and two actresses whom I guess to be Soundarya and Jayasudha. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.
I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy, prosperous and safe Deepawali.
Song-Korey korey sapne mere (Sooryavansham)(1999) Singers-Kumar Sanu, Anuradha Paudwal, Lyricist-Sameer, MD-Anu MalikLyrics:
korey korey sapne merebarson se thhe kitne adhoore
dheere dheere rang saja ke
toone kar diye unko poore
vaada hai vaada
chaahenge tumko
jeevan se jyaada
hai vaada vaada
korey korey sapne mere
barson se thhe kitne adhoore
dheere dheere rang sajaa ke
toone kar diye unko poore
vaada hai vaada
chaahenge tumko
jeevan se jyaada
hai vaada vaada
korey korey sapne mere
barson se thhe kitne adhoore
taaron ko ghar mein laayenge ham
aasha ke deep jalaayenge ham
aayee hain bahaaren
aayee hain
khushiyon ke nazaare laayee hain
korey korey sapne mere
barson se thhe kitne adhoore
dheere dheere rang saja ke
toone kar diye unko poore
vaada hai vaada
chaahenge tumko
jeevan se jyaada
hai vaada vaada
korey korey sapne mere
barson se thhe kitne adhoore
panchhee kabhee bhee rote naheen
patthar ke aansoo hote naheen
paana hai
kisee ko khona hai
hona hai
yahaan jo hona hai
korey korey sapne mere
barson se thhe kitne adhoore
dheere dheere
rang sajaa ke
toone kar diye unko poore
vaada hai vaada
chaahenge tumko
jeevan se jyaada
hai vaada vaada
korey korey sapne mere
barson se thhe kitne adhoore
dheere dheere rang saja ke
toone kar diye unko poore
