Today (21 february 2015) is a day when I woke up rather early which is quite uncharacteristic for me. But then situation called for it. No, I was not keen to watch the world cup match between Pakistan and West Indies. Rather, I wanted to ensure that I did not miss the world cup match between BCCI ( team India for the gullible persons) and South Africa. People aware of the match schedule of the world cup would wonder what non sense I was talking about.

So what did you say was so special about 31st Jan? Well, to start with, the realization that, gosh, one full month has slipped by in what was just a few days ago, the New Year. The year that was new, is now one month old. And do you know how old is the blog today? OK, let me calculate. With the start date of 19th July, 2008, we are looking at – oh, 6 full years + 6 full months + 13 full days. A quick visit to the calculator tells us that this corresponds to 6.54 years. So there, our blog is 6.54 years old.

Chilly winter greetings to all from a cold, cold Delhi. As I sit and write this post, the minimum temperature that continues to be maintained is in the range of 2 – 4 degrees C. Add to that the fog that keeps the warm sun away from the view. And top it up with rain that has been visiting us off and on. When I woke up today morning, it was drizzling. And the leaves of the trees waving in a brisk breeze told the story that it is going to be another chilly day. And so it has been for the past couple of weeks. Although I enjoy such weather, but there have been other circumstances, associated with the weather, that have kept me occupied and away from the blog activities. But today, we must celebrate.

The wait has been prickly. Eyebrows have been raised. Murmurs of disquiet are being heard. The posts have been delayed on the blog. Important posts, important anniversaries are overdue. All due to me. There is so much that has happened, that should have been covered at least two or three days ago. Multiple posts are in progress with me, and also posts and requests for anniversaries are piled up and waiting in the mailbox. On my side, I have a string of very plausible ‘excuses’ in my defense. But those details can wait. 🙂 The primaries first – it is six hundredth milestone that had to be breached, that is holding up everything else.

behti hui ye nadiyaa ghulte huey kinaare
koi to paar utre koi to paar guzre
I heard this recital by Meena Kumari for the first time ‘ Yoon teri rehguzar se deewana war guzre ‘ when Sudhir Sir’s post appeared in the blog, I was spell bound and could not stop hearing it for days on. The recital was so heart wrenching and full of sadness. I recorded the audio on my mobile and shared with all my friends.

Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 6
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
The hoof sounds of the returning horses sounded tired and beaten. It was hot and dusty. The sun beat down mercilessly on the sweaty gang members. The lonely tree provided some respite from the blazing heat. Lounging in his hammock tied to it, Mastermind lazily flicked the orangutan walking on his bare arm. The face of Kaalia appeared around the bend in the rocks.

Rahul Dev Burman – Forgotten Songs – 1
——————————————-
In April this year, I spent a considerable amount of time and created an excel sheet of the complete filmography (with all songs) of the genius composer Rahul Dev Burman aka Pancham aka RDB. This was my second such compilation after the Rafi Excel sheet, which Atul Ji usually mentions.
