Today’s song is a funny, ‘Anokhe Bol’ song from an iconic 86 year old film-Aadmi-1939.
The year was 1939 and the British Government had declared war against Germany and Japan, as soon as the WW II began. All countries ruled by Britain were – willingly or unwillingly, drawn into the war efforts and its effects. The war began in the month of September and soon various restrictions came into operation – like rationing, blackouts, shortages etc. The film industry which was still under its development stage suffered. It also realised the importance of remaining united as one industry. However, all that came after 1 or 2 years. In 1939 there was not much effect seen on the film industry.

Today’s fun song is from the film ‘Kunwara Baap’ (1942).
The first reaction after reading the title of the film will be Mehmood’s film of 1974 having the same title. But rest assured today’s film was made in 1942 and had a different story. Mehmood’s film was based on an incurable disease – Polio, suffered by a child and it had a touch of pathos, creating sympathy and allied feelings. But ‘Kunwara Baap’ of 1942 was a fun film.

A few days back I got a very personal email from our Sudhir Kapurji. This was a personal invite for contributing to the blog on the occasion of it reaching 10000 songs. At that time we were on song number 9720. Today before writing this when I visited the blog I see we are at song number 9750. So it is an alarm bell for slow pokes like me to send contributions to Atul at the earliest. Also when I saw the mail I had mentally decided that whatever I send till the D-Day of our blog should be happy and peppy songs. So here I am with my own version of an invitation song.

“Mera Dil Jal Rahaa Hai” – a dialogue that is delivered with a measured viciousness, with lancet eyes looking daggers at you, lips pinched and nose screwed, with both hands half raised in a dismissive directive to all and sundry – an utterance of extreme frustration and deepest contempt. This expression and this articulation, is a signature hallmark of the one and only comical-vampish-diabolical mother-in-law cum scheming aunt or sister. What is the most popular drink in India ? Tea, or ‘Chai”, as they call it in Hindi and many other Indian and foreign languages. If you visit and Indian household or office, you are likely to be served “chai”. When you go to a railway station, then the most ubiquitous vwndor you may come across is the itinerant teaseller one who sells his goods while carring a kettle of tea and shouting “Chai, garam chai” in his characteristic manner which has remnained unchanged over several generations.
