Hullo Atuldom

3rd Sunday of June is celebrated as Father’s Day and yesterday (19th June) was Father’s Day this year. The day is meant to honor Fatherhood and Paternal Bonds as well as the influence of fathers in society. In the USA, father’s day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June, for the first time, in 1910. The day is held across the world on various dates and different regions have their own traditions of honoring Fatherhood.

Here I would like to mention that Sonora Smart Dodd was the daughter of American Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart whom she held in very high esteem. Along with her father, she shared the raising of her five siblings, after the death of her mother. While hearing a church sermon about the newly recognized Mother’s Day, Sonora felt strongly that fatherhood needed recognition as well and suggested June 5th (her own fathers’ birthday) as a possible date for father’s day. The Ministerial Alliance of the Spokane County (the county where they lived) chose the third Sunday instead.

That is how Father’s Day came about to be on third Sunday of June and complements similar celebrations honoring family members such as Mother’s Day, Siblings’ Day and Grandparents’ Day.

Today we shall have a Father-Son song and continue with the celebration of Father’s Day here on our blog. We have a song from the film ‘Aamne Saamne’ (1982). The star cast of the film is Mithun Chakravarthy, Bindiya Goswami, Aarti Gupta, Tarun Ghosh, Dinesh Thakur, Leela Mishra, Kamal Kapoor etc. The film was released in January 1982 – 40 years already, wow!!! (Now I realize why I didn’t get to see it in the cinema hall back then. I was in the middle of preparing for my class 10 boards).

‘Aamne Saamne’ (not to be confused with the 1967 film with the same name, starring Sharmila Tagore and Shashi Kapoor, which has already been Yippeee’d on the blog) was produced by Shakti Samanta and directed by his son Ashim Samanta. Madan Joshi was the dialogue writer, KK Shukla wrote the story and screenplay. The songs of this film were written by Anjaan and (our very own) Panchamda was the music director. Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, RD Burman were the playback singers used. I think it is the voice of Vanita Mishra for the young boy in today’s song in duet with Panchamda for Mithun. This song may remind some people of “Papa Ko Mummy Se Pyaar Hai” from film ‘Andaz’ (1971).

The movie had a plot similar to the Rajesh Khanna starrer ‘Sachcha Jhootha’ (1970). Mithun has a double role where the simpleton Gopi from the village is spotted by Johnny, who is a stage-singer by day and a criminal by night. Johnny trains Gopi to take his place on stage so that he has an alibi if caught by the cops – age old formula, I am sure repeated later in ‘Dhoom 3’ (2013). Then there is a tiny angle of a child, who is on the lookout for his father, and has a photo of his parents to help him. Madhu Malhotra is the mother in the photo. This was Ashim Samanta’s debut as director, and Aarti Gupta’s first lead role.

With today’s post we are wishing (rather belatedly) Mithun Chakravarthy on turning 72 on 16th. May he continue to be busy with whatever his heart is after. May we get to see more of him.

The agenda closer to home of this post is to wish the Father of this blog, our very own fearless leader- Atul ji on his birthday today. Last year we had a wonderful post with the song “Main Nikla O Gaddi Le Ke” by Avinash ji on the same date. In that post Avinash ji has called the Blog a ‘gaddi’ which is driven by ‘engine’ Atul ji and all of team members and followers ‘wagons’ of this BANDWAGON. I fully endorse his thoughts.

Thanking Atul ji for taking us along with him on this grand journey of music and knowledge sharing. Thanking him also for giving us this platform and encouraging novices like me into writing out our thoughts. As always, I wish he gets more time with his family, pets, friends, music and the blog.

With this song, ‘Aamne Saamne’ (1982) makes its debut on the blog.

Rajesh Khanna – The Phenomenon – 9
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –- – –

Today 29th December’2021 is the seventy-nineth birth anniversary (29 December 1942 – 18 July 2012) of Rajesh Khanna, born as Jatin Khanna.

On this occasion we pay our tributes to him and listen a song from one of his movies.

In this ninth episode of ‘Rajesh Khanna- The Phenomenon’ we look at Rajesh Khanna movies in the year 1982. In the year 1982 the following six movies of Rajesh Khanna were released (including ‘Disco Dancer’* where he had a friendly appearance).

S No Movie Title Director Passed by Censor Board
01 Ashaanti Umesh Mehra 01.05.1982

(*Friendly Appearance, **Guest Appearance)

In the previous post in this series ‘Rajesh Khanna – The Phenomenon – 8’ we had discussed how Rajesh Khanna in the late seventies switched on to different roles exploring and introspecting himself and taking a new challenge for his ‘second innings’.

In the late seventies and early eighties, he has a string of successful movies viz. ‘Amardeep’ (1979), ’Thodi Si Bewafaai’ (1980), and critically acclaimed movies like ‘Red Rose) (1980), ‘Phir Wohi Raat’ (1980), and ‘Bandish’ (1980).

In 1981 he tasted more success with movies like ‘Dard’, ‘Dhanwan’, ‘Dil e Naadan’, ‘Qudrat’ and ‘Fifty-Fifty’.

‘Qudrat’ (1981) was a multi-starrer movie and had good success at the box-office. That saw Kaka putting more efforts to change his image and considering films in the ‘multi-starrer’ and ‘action’ genres, which he thought earlier was not his ‘cup of tea’. It can also be said that these two ‘genres’, where he was not doing films, were partly responsible for the failure of his earlier movies on the box-office.

In 1982 we had Kaka’s films like ‘Raaput’, ‘Ashaanti’, ‘Dharam Kaanta’ which were multi-starrer as well as action movies. He further continued doing such ‘multi-starrer-masaala’ films like ‘Paapi Pet Ka Sawaal Hai’, ‘Dharm Aur Qaanoon’, ‘Maqsad’, ‘Bewafaai’, ‘Awaam’, ‘Vijay’, etc. coming in the next few years.

Today’s song is from one of the above movies and that movie is ‘Ashaanti’. This song also beautifully catches the ‘spirit of team efforts’ instead of a ‘one-man-show’ and advocates ‘helping each other’ to get success.

‘Ashaanti’ is directed by Umesh Mehra for Eagle Films, Bombay, and is produced by Parvesh C. Mehra.

The movie has Rajesh Khanna, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi, Mithun Chakravarty, Kanwaljeet, Amrish Puri, Jeevan, Narendra Nath, Monty, Mac Mohan, Kishore Kapoor, Yusuf Khan, Ram Sethi, Nadira, Satyen Kappu, Bob Christo, Mohan Choti, Avtar Gill, Ajay Agrawal, Amir Jambra, Yusuf, Ganesh, and others. Prem Kishan and Ramesh Deo makes a special appearance in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 01.05.1982.

This movie has five songs composed by RD Burman. Lyrics for all the five songs are penned by Anand Bakshi. Following is the list of songs this movie had.

Hullo Atuldom

Holi kab hai? kab hai holi? kab? kab?” – these are the famous lines mouthed by the most dreaded daaku of Ramgarh. He was wanted ‘dead or alive’ and carried a reward of ‘pachhas hazaar’ on his head. And from his den he declared rather pompously “Yahan se pachhas pachhas kos door gaon mein … jab bachcha raat ko rota hai, toh maa kehti hai bete so ja … so ja nahi to Gabbar Singh aa jayega”. With the most simple and not-so-profound dialogues like ‘Kitne Aadmi The’, ‘Jo Darr Gaya Samjho Marr Gaya’ andTera kya hoga Kalia’, Gabbar Singh alias Amjad Khan had arrived on the Bollywood scene, giving life to one of the most celebrated and iconic characters in Hindi cinema.

Born in undivided India’s Peshawar in 1940, he was the first child of actor Jayant (Zakaria Khan). He was a bright student who had a Masters in Philosophy and loved to read English poets like Keats and Wordsworth and could debate on political theories or philosophies of Plato, Socrates and even Dr. Radhakrishnan. After his M.Phil he ventured on to the world of theatre to give a chance to his passion of acting that he had inherited from his father. That is where he was spotted by the writer duo Salim-Javed who recommended him to Ramesh Sippy and rest of the story is well known to all the fans of this wonderful actor.

That was 1975. Post ‘Sholay’ Amjad Khan went on to live a number of memorable characters on celluloid. Can anyone forget the risk-taking best friend Bishan of Kishan (Amitabh) in ‘Yaarana’,  or the funny policeman of Kumar Gaurav’s debut ‘Love Story’. He was unforgettable as Nawab Wajid Ali Shah in Satyajit Ray’s ‘Shatranj Ke Khiladi’. What versatility. He was happy that his directors and writers saw more than a villain or a daaku in him and thanked them for not typecasting him else, we would never have seen his comic timing and his mastery in emoting any kind of role.

Today it is 28 years since his passing and we have a song that shows him trying to shake a leg with Mithun. The song is penned by Farooq Kaiser and set to tune by Bappi Lahiri. It is from the 1985 release ‘Maa Kasam’ which was directed by Shibu Mitra & had a cast of Mithun, Amjad Khan, Ranjeet, Divya Rana, Sushma Seth and Pran. It was a typical masala movie complete with dances where the lead actors are in disguise etc.

I stumbled on this song recently and filed it away to post it in remembrance of Amjad Khan. It is sung by Mohd Aziz, Vijay Benedict and Parvati Khan. We also have Kalpana Iyer as part of the group dance. We can also see Guddi Maruti and Sundar present in this clip. Just to know why everyone is dressed in tribal outfits which the Red Indians will claim as their traditional wear I need to see this movie.

4385 Post No. : 15742

Hullo atuldom

Many times I find a celebrity’s birthday and then look for a song featuring him/ her. Then, there are times when I see or hear a song and look for the birth-dates or anniversaries of those related with that song. In both the scenarios the post is nearly ready due to readily available songs. There is a third scenario where when I visit the birth-dates/ anniversary page of our blog and I see a birthday of an artiste, whose work I like, coming up, I rush to look for possible songs and find it difficult to zero in on anyone because there are too may options. So to make selection easy, I make things more complicated by trying to find debut songs of the person, adding a condition that the person should be seen lip-syncing and if he/she is dancing in the song or at-least shaking a leg that would be a BONUS.

So today we are celebrating the 70th birthday of an actor who made un-credited appearances in ‘Aman’ (1967) and ‘Aan Baan’ (1972). Shyam Benegal was the one who first cast him as Vishwam in ‘Nishant’ in 1975 and there began his journey in the parallel cinema of the Indian Film industry. His foray into commercial cinema came about when he played one of the Pandavs in ‘Hum Paanch’ (1980) which was not a mythological movie but a movie with a social message. From then on, he has straddled cinema of various genres and been successful enough to last till today. He has given memorable performances and has been a recipient of the National Award and Filmfare award for the best actor three times. Additionally he has been awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

Initially we saw him as a costar to Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. Then with ‘Katha’ (1982) Deepti Naval became his heroine and his movies could be said to have become commercially viable when we saw him with Rekha in two movies – ‘Umrao Jaan’ (1981) and ‘Ijaazat’ (1987). I think he did one more movie with Rekha I can’t recollect. Here I am not talking of Rekha movies where this actor played negative characters meaning played a villain (being the right term). Oh yes, this actor has played villain and hero in traditionally masala films. Just goes to show how versatile he is.

I am sure the readers have guessed that I am talking of Naseeruddin Shah. I loved what Sudhirji wrote in his post for the song “Kisi Na Kisi Se Kabhi Na Kabhi (Medley)” last year on the same occasion. I think we should revisit it.

For today let us see him sing and dance with Mithun Chakravarty and Yogita Bali. So “Oye oye. . . Tirchi Topiwaale” was not the first time he tried to dance.  Here he has played Mithun’s friend and Yogeeta’s brother. The song is from the romantic thriller ‘Khwaab’ (1980) which was directed by Shakti Samanta. It had songs written and composed by Ravindra Jain. Today’s song is sung by Jaspal Singh, Suresh Wadkar and Hemlata. The story of the movie is present in the only song of the movie that has been posted in the monsoon of 2015 – “Tu Hi Wo Haseen Hai“.

Happy Birthday to Naseeruddin Shah – stay healthy and may we have more from you.

Lyrics

ooo hohohoooooho
ooo hoho hoooo ho
aaa aaaaa
(ooo hoho hoooo ho)
aaa aaaaa
(ooo hoho hoooo ho)

ek aas liye
vishwas liye
mera mann manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe
ek aas liye
vishwas liye
mera mann manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe
jisey aas na ho
jisey aas na ho
vishwas na ho
wo kya dhoondhe kahaan dhoondhe
ek aas liye
vishwas liye
mera mann manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe

ahaa ahaa haa lalala laa
ohohoho oooo
ahaa ahaa haa lalala laa
ohohoho oooo

dharti se aasman tak
manzilon ke silsile
wo kya karey jisey manzil
mil ke bhi na miley
yun bhi hota hai jeewan mein
rehta chhupa mann mein
mere saathi
mil jaata hai wo bina dhoondhe
ek aas liye
vishwas liye
mera mann manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe

sapna ho jin mein koi
soti nahin hain woh aankhen
saathi adhure sapne
meri bhi aankhon mein jhaanken
har sukh se juda dukh hai
dukh ka apna sukh hai
mere saathi
sab kuch na miley yahaan dhoondhe
ek aas liye
vishwas liye
mera mann manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe

ahaa ahaa haa lalala laa
ohohoho oooo

nit bhor ki ye laali
deti sandesha zindagi ka
jis ne andhere kaate
hoga savera bhi usi ka
koi meet sahara de to
jeene ka ishaara de to
mere sathi
wahin manzil tu jahaan dhoondhe
ek aas liye
vishwas liye
mera man manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe
mera man manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe
mera man manzil ke nishaan dhoondhe

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 4
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

This song has been suggested by Peevesie’w Mom ji, for inclusion in this series. Interestingly enough, the original song from the ‘Disco Dancer’ was posted on our blog by herself only, on June 16th, last year. Last year she has posted this on the birth anniversary of the prime protagonist of this song – Mithun Chakravarty.

So when I initiated this series, she almost immediately connected with me, and sent me the link to this repeat song, with the request that I post it on the 16th June. But my bad – even though I did start preparing this post well in time, 16th June was not to be, due to other compelling priorities etc. So today, fourteen days later, we are sending in this very belated birthday greeting to this original Disco Dancer.

The original song appears on our blog here >> “I Am A Disco Dancer”. It is from the 1982 film ‘Disco Dancer’ with music by Bappi Lahiri, and singing voice is of Vijay Benedict. In this later version from the 2010 film ‘Golmaal 3’, the song has been re recorded in the voice of Bappi Lahiri himself. This version is shorter than the original by one stanza.

The interesting peculiarity, rather a unique feature about this repeat song is that on screen it is performed by the same artist, after a gap of 28 years. And so, it is an interesting comparison to view both these songs side by side. When he performed this song in 1982, he was all of 30 years of age. And the repeat – well in 2010, Mithun was 58 years old. The energy and the intensity of his dance movements of course has dimmed down quite a bit. In this latter version we are bringing on today, most of his movements are single move shots, standing at one place, very unlike the vigorous moves he makes as he bounces across the stage, 28 years earlier. But surely, kudos to him for still taking on this challenge, and making quite a good show of it. It is in his eyes – the intensity in his eyes is still the same.

As I am writing about this unique repeat song, I am also reminded of another similar repeat, that is actually a hallmark in the history of Hindi film music. Yes, I am reminding readers of the very first song in Hindi films – “De De Khuda Ke Naam Pe Pyaare”. That song, and its singer, has made an even more significantly unique record in the annals of Hindi film songs. Wazir Mohammed Khan, who has sung, as well as performed on screen, this momentous song in ‘Alam Aara’ in 1931 – he was destined to repeat it twice, as both the singer and the on screen performer. The film ‘Alam Aara’ was remade twice, in 1956 and then again in 1973. With the first rendition being in 1931, after 25 years, it gets reprised in 1956, and then again after another 17 years in 1973 – the second repeat coming 42 years after the original performance.

WM Khan was born in 1906 – that makes him just 25 years of age when he appeared in the original ‘Alam Aara’ of 1931. With a white turban and a flowing grey beard, this young man of 25 years played the role of a 70+ years old mendicant. In 1956, he was fifty when he reprised this role the first time. And then, in 1973, he was 67 years of age, when he played the fakeer yet one more time, singing the same song. Of course, the third time he did not need a make-up artifact – the white beard we see is his own. The very first song in Hindi films – repeated twice over, and by the same singer-performer, over a period of 42 years. This accomplishment in the annals of Hindi films is likely to go down in history – unmatched and unchallenged.

On another note, since I initiated this series, I have been getting some very seriously interesting suggestions from various readers of our blog, and other friends in my circle. Some very interesting songs are coming up as repeats in the next episodes of this series.

Regarding the film ‘Golmaal 3’, I am not getting into details. The Wiki page of this film carries a lot of good information. One interesting connect I made about this film. Although this song is credited to Bappi Lahiri, being the music director of the original, the MD of ‘Golmaal 3’ is Pritam. Full name of this gentleman is Pritam Chakravarty. So we have the MD and the lead player in the film – both Chakravarty. To top it, the name of the character role played by Mithun in the film – it is Pritam. 😀 😀

OK, so the 4th episode done, with a promise of a few very interesting ones to come up. Watch this space – 🙂 .

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# The Special Voices of the decade – 2 # Anwar #
———————————————–———————-

Welcome all to this second article under this ‘series’.

In this ‘series’ we are discussing the ‘Special Voices’ which emerged on the horizon of HFM in the years of Seventies, and who in their own way have left an indelible mark in the minds of ‘music lovers’ leaving behind legacy of many many memorable songs.

These ‘Special Voices’ are those singers who make their entry in Hindi Film Music when the legends like Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey and Mukesh, Mahendra Kapoor among Male Singers and Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, among female singers were already ruling the Hindi Film Music scene. Still, these new voices, when they entered into HFM, took the audience by storm. Some of them were successful enough and popular too, and they continue to sustain for a long time.

However, some, though they shine very brightly as they appear on the scene, but were not able to sustain for a long time and slowly fade away from the scene and may be from the memory of many people too. In any case all of them gave us many fabulous songs and memories to cherish forever. Some of these Singers continued to enjoy being favorites among music directors and audience and/ or both and were successful in keeping themselves going and singing.

But some were not lucky enough and were sidelined with or without any reason. Politics, ego, discrimination and hypocrisy play their roles around us in every sphere of life, and Cinema too has always been influenced by these factors. Many talented people have been affected by this. And so, if one compares the number of songs their final tally read one will conclude that they were not successful or popular as the other established singers of their time who were ruling the charts at that time.

But, numbers are not the true test and so in these cases they will not justify the immense talent these people possess.

One of such talented Singer is the name – Anwar Hussain or Anwar as he is better known by. The voice that was said to be the ‘closest’ to, and having a ‘strange resemblance’ with the voice of Rafi Saab.

Anwar was born on 1st February, 1949 in Mumbai. His father Aashiq Hussain was an accomplished harmonium player and assistant to the famous Music Director Ghulam Haider. His father also used to play sitar. This familiar film and music background inspired young Anwar to take on music and singing. Looking at his interest in singing, his father took him to Ustad Abdul Rehman Khan for training in classical music. Here Anwar took a rigorous training for more than ten years.

Simultaneously he was also doing stage shows where he used to sing songs of Rafi Saab. He was noticed by the famous S. Hazara Singh who took him to Poona to sing with his musical group. While Anwar was going around doing the stage shows and singing in marriage functions, he always wanted to do playback singing for movies. His friends were also encouraging him always and telling him that his voice was very much similar to that of Rafi Saab’s voice.

Music director Kamal Rajasthani who was also struggling then to establish himself as a music-director in Hindi film world, spotted Anwar during one of his stage shows and he gave him a break as a playback singer in the movie ‘Mere Ghareeb Nawaaz’ (1973). Kamal Rajasthani also gave him further training to polish his talent.

Anwar made his debut in Hindi films with this song ‘Kasmein Hum Apni Jaan Ki Khaaye Chale Gaye’. Though initially he rehearsed for a different song but was finally given this solo and to sing. It so happened that Rafi Saab was present in the same studio where mixing of this song was being done and when Rafi Saab listened to this song, he asked his secretary when did he recorded this one. One can easily assume that the praise and showering coming straight from the ‘living legend’ then would have been more than enough for someone to establish himself in the industry and make a great career.

However, unfortunately, ‘stars’ were not in favor of Anwar and his career didn’t take off after his debut as he expected it to be. When he recorded his first song he was just twenty years old. So, it was still a long way to go for him. But in spite of the ‘perfect start’ with ‘Mere Ghareeb Nawaaz’, he had to wait for almost four years to get his next chance to sing in Hindi films.

And that too came up after lot of struggle and making visits to several music directors. As told by Anwar himself he used to visit many music directors and play his first recorded song to get work. Many of them appreciated him, but also told him that since Rafi Saab was already there so they didn’t see any reason to have him song for them. In a very recent interview of 2016 Anwar has given vent to his feelings, and his mistakes too, which he admits were mainly responsible to ruin his career in HFM.

Well, coming back to his looking for work, he met many of the leading and famous music directors of that time but nothing materialized. Finally, when he contacted Mehmood who was then busy in the making of ‘Kunwaara Baap’ (1974). He got some respite, as Mehmood assured him to give songs in his next movie ‘Janta Hawaldar’ (1979). Mehmood took him to music director Rajesh Roshan. The latter took him on as a playback singer, without asking him any questions, as he was aware of Mehmood’s ‘music sense’.

And after that as we are all aware the songs of ‘Janta Hawaldar’ were liked immensely by the public specifically “Hamse Ka Bhool Huyi“and “Teri Aankhon Ki Chaahat Mein”.

The song that was first recorded for this movie was “Teri Aankhon Ki Chaahat Mein”. After recording, Mehmood took to play it for Rajesh Khanna who was shooting at ‘Filmalaya Studios’ for another movie. When he listened to this song his reaction was – “Bade dinon ke baad Rafi saab ne bade mood mein gaana gaya hai”.

After this movie he started getting offers and some of his notable songs came in movies like ‘Qurbaani’ (1980), ‘Aahista Aahista’ (1981), ‘Naseeb’ (1981), ‘Prem Rog’ (1982), ‘Vidhaata’ (1982), ‘Arpan’ (1983), ‘Sohni Mahiwal’ (1984), ‘Ham Hain Laajawaab’ (1984), ‘Ye Ishq Nahin Aasan’ (1984), ‘Heer Raanjha’ (1992), etc.

His career lasted for almost twenty years from 1973 to 1993. And as mentioned by him in the interview on RS TV he sang about 1000 to 1500 songs for the movies (I am not aware if this is only for Hindi Movies or it includes other language movies too. Knowledgeable readers are requested to throw more light on this.)

In this same interview the anchor noted and I also vaguely remembered that people initially thought that Anwar was the son of Rafi Saab. It should be noted here that from 1973 to 1980 when Rafi Saab was still alive, he got very less opportunities of singing in movies. Though he got the opportunity to sing with Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Suresh Wadkar, Asha Bhonsle, Sudha Malhotra and others he didn’t get that much if we compare it with other singers and that too specially Rafi Saab himself had said about him that he is the best one who could fill the gap after him.

But nothing magical happened and thus a talented singer’s career come to a sad end.

Other than the songs that I mentioned above I like his “Koyee Pardesi Aaya Pardes Mein  and “Haathon Ki Chand Lakeeron Ka”. I would also like to mention the song “Yaar Dagaa De Gaya Dulhan Ko Le Gaya” which is having his voice along with Manna Dey and Jaspal Singh. Another famous song by him is “Mohabbat Ab Tijaarat Ban Gayi Hai”, which he sang for Jeetendra in 1983 for the film ‘Arpan’ which is his other song I like very much and it was quite popular too in those years.

There are many of his songs which I like or which had been popular, however I have mentioned above only those songs which give me ‘nostalgic’ feeling most. So far (if the data is updated and correct) we have only eleven of his songs posted on the blog; and not a single one of his from the melodious musical ‘Ahista Ahista’ has been posted so far on the blog. But, well, that gives us an opportunity to discuss them in future.

Today’s song is closer to my heart and very nostalgic for me. For today’s post initially, I strongly felt to share the song “Nazar Se Phool Chunti Hai Nazar” from ‘Aahista Aahista’, but I skipped it for future. The second option was the beautiful song from ‘Janta Hawaldar’ – “Teri Aankhon Ki Chaahat Mein” (this was available and shared by me long back in 2012, but still to be posted). However, for today, I have selected this song from ‘Be-Shaque’ (1980). Because this way I can also introduce this movie on the blog.

This was a song in my vague memory and I was sure that it was sung by Mohd Rafi. It was in my wish list of the songs that I wish to see on our blog. Before I could search and prepare for it one fine day I noticed that it has been posted for the film ‘Laal Bangla’ (1966). But when I checked again, I found that it does not have the same lines that were in my memory for so long. Confused, I keep on searching and finally succeeded in getting the song which I think I have heard many many years back. Now I got to know that this is sung by Anwar and not by Mohd Rafi. But interestingly, the music for the films ‘Laal-Bangla’ and the movie for today’s song, is composed by the same music director Usha Khanna. The lyrics of this song are penned by Nandi Khanna.

I have not watched this movie and would request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this film and the songs from this film. Also, I would like to note here that when I shared this song long back I had only the video of this song which has only one stanza. At that time I thought the song was only this one stanza. Now after almost five years I have been able to find the full version of this song (but audio only) which is being presented with this post today.

The film ‘Be-Shaque’ was directed by Kashinath for Surya Gayatri Productions, Bombay. It had Yogita Bali, Mithun Chakravarty, Sonia Sahni, Jalal Agha, Amrish Puri, Asha Chandra, Suresh Chatwal, Mohan Choti, Pental, Raj Bibra and Shakti Kapoor. This movie has four songs (as per HFGK Vol-V) – two penned by Anjaan, and one each by Ravindra Rawal and Nandi Khanna. Music is by Usha Khanna. Anwar, Asha Bhonsle, Suresh Wadkar and Usha Khanna gave their voices to the songs in this movie. On screen this song is lip synced by Mithun Chakravarty.
