Hullo to Atuldom
Today’s song from a film called “Daal-me-kala” (that is how it was spelt in the titles, when I saw the movie yesterday) which released in 1964. It had a star cast of Kishore Kumar, Nimmi, Agha, Shammi, Abhi Bhattacharya, Bepin Gupta, Om Prakash, Mumtaz Begum, Sulochana Chatterjee, Tun Tun, Sunder, Keshto Mukherjee etc. the movie had four lyricists- Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, Bharat Vyas, Santoshi (again as shown in the titles, must be P.L. Santoshi) and Majrooh Sultanpuri. The playback singers used were Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey and C. Ramchandra. Music director was C. Ramchandra. The movie was produced by Bepin Gupta and directed by Satyen Bose.

Anand Bakshi- R. D. Burman- Kishore Kumar- Rajesh Khanna. This is one combination that spelt wonders for all Hindi film music lovers across the globe. This is a combo which gave us melodies, in the 70s, in films like Kati Patang, The Train, Apna Desh, Amar Prem, Raja Rani, Namak Haraam, Aap Ki Kasam, Ajnabee etc. The trend followed in the 80s too with movies like Ashanti, Hum Dono (yes there are three films by this name in Bollywood), Awaaz, Alag Alag, etc.

The new year 2018 began yesterday. We started celebrating the birthdays of artists from the first day of the year itself, by discussing a Nana Patekar song. Nana Patekar is one of many artists who chose the new year day to be born. 🙂
As far as our regulars are concerned, they are not too far behind. They are just one day behind Nana Patekar. As many as three of our regulars, namely Pradeep Raghunathan, Peevesie’s mom and Sheela ji(wife of Avinash Scrapwala) are celebrating their birthdays today on 2 january 2018. Just five days ago, I’d written a post here paying tribute to one of the most loved legends of the Hindi film industry, Mohammad Rafi, on his birth anniversary. Referred to by many (including me) as Rafisaab, he was a giant in his field. Yet he remained humble to his last day, never letting success get to his head. He treated everyone with great respect and, in turn, earned the respect of everyone he interacted with.

“Raja Rani” was a 1973 movie which was directed by Sachin Bhowmik – otherwise known to be a story and screenplay writer; it was produced by Jagdish Kumar.
The movie had a star cast led by Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore (who seemed to look younger in this movie as compared to Aradhana of 1969 ??). The supporting cast consisted of David, Iftikar, Raj Mehra, Bhram Bharadwaj, Asit Sen, Suresh, Naaz. Dulari etc. Anand Bakshi wrote songs which tunes by R.D. Burman.

If remembering important dates is likened to batting in cricket then I must admit that I am a tailender batsman on the lines of B S Chandrashekhar, who found it easier to take wickets than score runs. In his test career, he took 242 test wickets but scored only 167 runs. 🙂
