When I saw the caption of this song, “tere pyaar mein dildaar” I thought I recognised this song. When I started to play it, it turned out to be a Lata Mangeshkar song, while I thought it might be a Shamshad Begum sing a composition by O. P. Nayyar from 50’s. It has a very old worldy feel to it. Actually it is from the Film “Mere Mehboob” and it is composed by Naushad. It goes without saying that it is written by Shakeel Badayuni. This is a kind of song, which keeps going on and on in the head long after you have heard it. I heard this song yesterday, after a very long time. It has three long stanzas in rapid speed. I made doubly sure that it was not posted. This should one of the last 2 songs from the film posted here, if earthmusic.net information is correct.

I was looking for a song written by Shailendra for posting in the blog. That is easier said than done because a large number of Shailendra songs have already been discussed and the trick is to locate a song that has not yet been discussed. This search took me into unknown territory in YT. I came across a song on YT where no details whatsoever about the lyricist was available. The fact that it is from “Sanskaar”(1952) and it was composed by Roshan and sung by Lata was the only information available. Though a few comments were there going waah waah over this rare composition, there was no mention of even the lyrics of this song. So if one was to search for this song by its lyrics, one would draw a blank since the title simply says “Lataji Sanskaar 1952 Roshan” which is not very helpful.

This song is from the epic called “Mughal-e-Azam”. Seeing this film on the big screen is an experience to behold, which our children are having no opportunity to do. I have seen it at ‘Maratha Mandir’ in Bombay Central, where this film premiered in 1960. No, I was not there for the premier but saw it when it was showing, must be in the mid 80’s. All of us are familiar with the music of this film. As far as I can see only two songs from this film remain to be discussed, one is “bekas pe karam keejiye sarkaar-e-madina” and the other is “prem jogan banke”. The later is sung by Bade Gulam Ali Khan, reputedly the only time he was persuaded to sing a film song. My personal favourite song in the film is “aye ishq yeh sab duniya waale, bekaar ki baaten karte hain” which is already posted. Mean while, Deshmukh Sir is doing a painstaking job of listing films with only one or two songs remaining to be posted. I expect he will reach ‘M’ too soon.

When I saw the list of songs remaining to complete the score of films in this blog, given by our own in house encyclopedia, Deshmukh Sir, I was actually thrilled that one song from ‘Asli Naqli” was remaining. The song in question is “Laakh chhupaao chhup na sakegaa raaz ho kitna gehraa” is something I am familiar with and very fond.
