“Jheel Ke Us Paar”(1973) was produced and directed by Bhappie Sonie forBhappie Sonie Productions, Bombay. This movie was based on a Gulshan Nanda novel of the same name. It had Dharmendra, Mumtaz, Prem Chopra, Junior Mehmood, Ranjeet, Fariyaal, Veena, Anwar Hussain, Ifthikar, Urmila Bhatt, Sujata, Polson, Baby Cheeku, Madan Kenny, Rajan Kapoor, Altamash Ghaznavi, Yogita Bali with guest appearance by Jagdish Raj and special appearance by Pran.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 22

This day ten year ago (23 april 2010) was long long ago and it was an entirely different kind of world those days. Those were the days when people were supposed to go for work and that too on time. 🙂 You were questioned if you were late for work. 🙂
Now a days, we have to prove that we are going for work and why this work is important. Only people doing “important” work are supposed to go out of work these days. 🙂
I was supposed to be someone whose work was “important” then as well as now. That is a justification why I was postin only two or three posts those days as well as now a days. 🙂

Hello Atuldom
I am back again with one more birthday post. I was aware of this date- 9th April. For additional reminder Avinashji played my alarm this time. Every year I make mental notes to wish this Bengali Beauty but on the run-up to the date I end up forgetting to write and send a song.
When I shared my experience of seeing the dream girl at Mumbai airport with my friends from school we had a major down-memory-lane session. We remembered who was whose fan at that young age of ours. And my friends were talking of how I was a die-hard Rekha fan and she herself was a Jaya Bhadhuri fan. Actually we were three of us and between us we had Rekha, Jaya and Hema as favourites and the other heroines of those time were also-rans in our opinion. Oh! to be that age again!!! Hope the song with post is liked by my girl-gang.

In my last article, I had discussed playback singer and actor Shyam Kumar, who has acted in many Hindi films but remained unidentified for most of the Hindi film audience. In this write-up, I am presenting one more such actor who has made us to notice him in many films but remained unsung because he did very small roles in most of the films in which he got opportunity to act – mostly as a sidekick, a henchman, a doctor, barman, hotel manager etc. Though his roles in most of the films have been very brief say, not be more than 5 minutes duration but whatever he did as an actor in varied roles, it was noticeable to the filmy audience. The actor is Keshav Rana whose face in the films may be familiar to many cine audience but may not be known by his name to them.

“Insaaf” is a title that is like Halley’s comet. It arrives in Hindi movie scene at ten year intervals or so, We have seen movies titles “Insaaf” being released in 1946, 1956, 1966, after break of one decade, it appeared again in 1987.
“Insaaf”(1956) was produced by Ravjibhai U Patel and Natwar Shyam and directed by Kedar Kapoor for Bhagyoday Pictures, Bombay. This movie had Nalini Jaiwant, Ajeet, Kamal Kapoor, Tiwari, Kamal, Sagar, Ramesh Tiwari, Helen, Durga Khote, Johny Walker etc in it.

Hello Atuldom
She was a child star to start with, facing the camera for the first time, probably at the age of 8 or 9 in 1948. Her father was a successful actor-producer-director of his time, but his death at a young age had this Baby becoming a child actress so that she could support her family. I am referring to Master Vinayak Damodar Karnataki’s daughter Nanda Karnataki a.k.a Nanda.

Hindi Songs in Bangla Films – 21

Ashapurna Devi (1909-1995) was a Bengali novelist who wrote more than 200 novels, over 2000 short stories and over 50 children’s books during her life time. It is to her credit that she could contribute so much to the Bengali literature despite being born in a very conservative Bengali joint family in which female members of the household were not allowed to attend school. For male members, private teachers were appointed who will teach them in their home. It is during this time, Ashapurna Devi learnt Bengali alphabets albeit clandestinely when her brothers were being taught in the house. She won many coveted literary awards including Jnanpith Award for her novel Prothom Protishruti (The First Promise) in 1976.
