The dynamo of Indian classical music is stilled. And the strings of the sitar will be played no more.
Pt. Ravi Shankar, the most enduring icon of Indian classical music, and the most influential ambassador of India’s culture to the entire world, passed away on 12th December (India time, 11th December local time) in San Diego, USA. He breathed his last one week after having undergone a valve replacement surgery. At the age of 92, he was still active on stage, still continued to tour, and had just a week earlier been nominated yet once again for the 2013 Grammy awards.

“Kathputli” (1957) was a Shrirangam Productions movie. It was produced by Amiya Chakravarty and Ajit Kumar Chakravarty. The movie was directed by Amiya Chakravary and Nitin Bose. The reason why there were two producers and directors for this movie was that Amiya Chakravarty died during the making of this movie and therefore the movie had to be completed by other personnel.

Today (29th july) is the death anniversary of Sudhir Phadke (25 july 1919- 29 july 2002). He got the opportunity to compose in very few Hindi movies, but he has left an indelible mark in the annals of Hindi movie music. Who can forget the immortal song Jyoti kalash chhalke from “Bhaabhi Ki Choodiyaan”. Another timeless classic, viz. Din hai suhaana aaj pahli taarikh hai is also his creation.
