Two days ago, I had posted one song from a film that is very obscure –‘Jawahar’ (1960). The song I had posted was for the birth anniversary of Dwijen Mukhopadhyay. And I had written in the article that I have no additional information about this film. The same day, Kirit ji Bhatt almost immediately added the comment, appreciating the upload and requesting for another song from the same film. Ah, that give me encouragement that listeners in our friend circle do remember even the obscure films, because of the songs and music.

“A very very sad day for Indian music” – that is the words that Pradeep ji has expressed just now, in his email response.

Manna Da, the voice behind the sounds of the rousing “Upar Gagan Vishaal,Neeche Gehraa Pataal” and the chartbusting peppy number “Aaao Twist Karen”, is silenced today. A voice that has regaled music lovers for over seven decades now, will not be heard any more. Manna Da breathed his last early morning today, at a hospital in Bangalore, having been unwell for the past few months.
