The Voice of Mukesh #41
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Ah, the good feeling of having met one small success. Friends and readers will remember from earlier posts in this series, that we are running short of three songs in the journey of completing all that Mukesh has sung for Hindi films. Well, that number reduces to two today. 🙂

The Voice of Mukesh #37
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Ah haa, another lovely ghazal, this time from a lesser known film from 1949. The film is ‘Nazaare’, from the renowned banner of Ranjeet Movietone. The film is directed by Prahlad Dutt. A reading of the star cast indicates this would be one of those assembly line outputs of Ranjeet. The star cast includes Shashikala, Agha, Satish, Shanti Madhok, Khan, Anwari, Ramesh Thakur, Ram Avtar, Rajendra. The poet for the lyrics is identified as Rajinder Krishan, and the music is from the baton of Bulo C Rani. The film has sixteen songs in all, and a bit surprising that Bulo C Rani thought of using Mukesh for only one song in this film.

The Voice of Mukesh #35

Today I am posting the next song by Mukesh, from the year 1949. The film is ‘Lekh’. Given that this film stars the famous pairing of that era – Motilal and Suraiyyaa, I am guessing that this film must have been one of the successes of its time. Maybe so, but today, the name sounds unfamiliar and obscure.

After the success of “Ek Thhi ladki” (1949), a movie called “Ek Thha Ladka” (1951) got made too. “Ek Thha Ladka” (1951) was a Chitra Mahal Production. It was directed by R Sanware. The movie had Bharat Bhushan, Geeta Bali, Tiwari, Geeta Nizami, Nilopher, Kamal, Umesh Sharma, Jankidas etc in it.

I am sure the readers are kind of wary by now, of the delays and gaps between the posts that I am able to prepare and send to Atul ji for publication. Multiple reasons I can ascribe to this irregularity, but I depend on the indulgence of all of you, and the joys of uncertainties too.

roshan tumhin se duniya
raunak tumhin jahaan ki
salaamat raho

Greetings to Pyaarelal ji, the doyen of the living legends of Hindi film music, on his anniversary of birth on 3rd September. And along with this occasion, we also celebrate the 500th song of Laxmikant Pyaarelal to be posted on this blog (second only to Shankar Jaikishan among music directors, who have already crossed the 700 mark).

I was in school when the songs of this film hit the radio waves. The film apparently made almost no impact, for I did not register its name or other details ever. And it was only after joining Song-a-Day team, that I came to know about the details of this film, even its name. A while back I had posted one song from this film – “Ye Dil Nasheen Nazaare Karte Hain Kya Ishaare”, and that was when I searched for and found the details of this film. And it was then that I realized that three of the new favorites (referring to the time I was in school) are all from the same film ‘Pyaase Dil’ (1974). (Ah yes, Prakash ji, after reading your comment, I thought more wait is not good to get this third song in 🙂 ).
