Ramesh Saigal who had produced and directed socially relevant films like ‘Shikast (1952) and ‘Railway Platform (1956), ventured in to make one more such film based on the Russian novelist Dostoevsky’s ‘Crime and Punishment’. The film was PHIR SUBAH HOGI (1958). Raj Kapoor and Mala Sinha were the lead actors in this movie with Rehman, Jagdish Sethi, Leela Chitnis, Nana Pansikar and Mubarak in the supporting roles. The songs were written by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed by Khayyam. As far as I know, Sahir Ludhianvi teamed up with Khayyam for the first time in this film.

“Ladka Ladki” (1966) was a Bright Films Production. It was directed by Som Haksar. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Mumtaz, Sujit Kumar, Laxmi Chhaya, I.S.Johar, Bhagwan,Raj Mehra, Tuntun, Randhir, Leela Misra, Ravikant, Johnny Whisky, Kesri, Krishna Duggal, Gulshan Baawra, Jagadish Bhalla, Aasi, Jerry, Abubakar, Nazir Kashmiri, Sham Laal, Deen Dayaal etc.

I became aware of the movie when farmaish for a song of this movie was given by a reader some two years back. The reader had mentioned the movie as “Banu” which was a typo and as a result my search was delayed. Finally I located the song. Being able to home in on this elusive song gave me tremendous satisfaction. That song was the first song from this movie to be posted in this blog. Subsequently I have discussed two more songs from this movie.

I have often mentioned it that lyrics are the soul of songs. One of the main reasons why the songs of the golden era went on to become timeless classics was that great importance was given to lyrics of the songs.
