“Teen Deviyaan” (1965) was for some reason a blindspot for me, and I was not much clued in to its songs. Now I am finding out that quite a few songs, which I enjoyed listening to without knowing about their details were actually from this movie.

I had once mentioned that the version of song seen in the movie and heard in the records was often different because they were recorded on two separate occassions. Imagine a great song being recorded not once but twice ! Once for the movie sound track, and once for the record company.

In late 1940s and early 1950s, actors were shown seated at the piano and singing a song. Now singing a song and playing a piano simultaneously is a superhuman job, but Bollywood actors would be shown doing that routinely.

“Miss Mary” (1957) is a movie that I like a lot. It has Gemini Ganeshan (Rekha’s father), Meena Kumari, Kishore Kumar etc in lead roles and it is a nice, heartwarming movie.

“Vidya” (1948) had Dev Anand and Suraiyya in lead roles. Suraiyya was the leading singing star of that time and she sang her own songs.

There are many movies which have titles like “beti”, “beta”, “bhai”, “bahan” and their various combinations. In fact, I tend to get confused among their various combinations. And to complicate matters, there may be different movies of the same name as well.

Rajendra Kumar, known for copying Dilip Kumar’s mannerisms, was known as Jubilee Kumar, because almost all his movies tended to be jubilee hits. Those days,movies completing 25 weeks were called silver jubilee hits and movies completing 50 weeks were called golden jubilee hits. Almost every Rajendra Kumar movie was a jubilee hit.

Bollywood movies of yesteryears used to have party songs cum piano songs where people would be gathered in the palatial mansion of the hero/ heroine and the hero/ heroine would be asked to sing.
