“Sharbati Aankhen” (1945) is by now an extremely obscure movie and very little information is available about this movie. The information that I have been able to gather (and it may be outright wrong too) is that this movie was directed by Ramchandra Thakur and this movie had actors like Vanmala, Ishwarlal, Agha etc.

Here is one more gem of a song that comes from a grade B/C film. Ek Raat is a 1967 film produced under the banner of East&West Movies, directed by Rajnath. A suspense action drama, in which the star cast includes Sheikh Mukhtar, Simi, Madan Puri, Shyama, David, Laxmi Chhaayaa, Samson etc. The lyrics of this film come from the pen of Yogesh Gaud and the music is by Usha Khanna.

“Baat Ek Raat Ki” (1962) is a movie starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman. When one looks at the songs of this movie, one notices that this movie had lots of singers singing lots of solos and duets. This movie had singers like Rafi,Lata, Manna Dey,Hemant Kumar,Asha Bhonsle and Suman Kalyanpuri. And this movie has duets sung by Rafi and Lata, Rafi and Asha Bhonsle, as well as Hemant Kumar and Suman Kalyanpur. In fact, Asha Bhonsle and Rafi sing as many as four duets in this movie.

“Chakradhaari” (1954) is a religious/mythological movie and one expects its songs to be mainly prayers etc. And indeed there are several such songs. But this movie also has songs that are more “mainstream” in the sense that they have more to do more with human relations rather than with the Almighty.

“Namoona” (1949) is a movie that had Kishore Sahu, Kamini Kaushal, Dev Anand and Leela Chitnis in lead roles. In this movie, Kamini Kaushal’s father fixes her wedding with Kishore Sahu, though she is in love with Dev Anand. And as is the case in Hindi movies, he resorts to emotional blackmail to get her to marry the person of his choice. Dev Anand, who overhears their conversation, also concurs with the old man and advises Kamini Kaushal that they needed to sacrifice their love for the sake of practical considerations.
