Today (15 april 2021) is the 99th birth anniversary of Hasrat Jaipuri (15 April 1922 – 17 September 1999).
Hasrat Jaipuri penned over 1000 songs in Hindi movies from 1949 (“Barsaat”) till 2004 (Hatya: the murder ).
Majority of Hasrat Jaipuri songs were with Shankar Jaikishan. Most of them have already been covered in the blog. We need to look at movies of 1970s to come up with Hasrat Jaipuri songs penned for Shankar Jaikishan.

Geeta Dutt – Solos and Duets (05)
———————————–————–
Among the first few songs, I had selected for posting in this series, is this group song, with folksy tune. The film is ‘Chaalbaaz’ (1958), the music is composed by Chitragupt and lyricist is Prem Dhawan. The title of the film evokes memories of late Sridevi and her double role and the comic act in the film of same title in the year 1989.

Rafi Sahab’s Legendary Associations – 4
———————————–————––——————————————–————
Chaudhvin ka chaand ho
Ya aaftaab ho….
Jo bhi ho tum khudaa ki qasam
Lajawaab ho…oo….ooo
This time it is the turn of Music director who is known as the creator of iconic songs, popularly known as Ravi. His association with Rafi sahab begins in 1956-57 with the first film “Ek Saal” with 2 solo songs written by Prem Dhawan. Many of these iconic songs composed by Ravi were sung by Rafi sahab in this long association which ended only with the demise of Rafi Sahab in 1980. I counted 251 songs composed by Ravi in the excel sheet of Rafi sahab songs. Around 200 of these songs are upto late 60’s. In the 70’s Rafi sahab’s output has as it is decreased so it is not surprising that the 70’s decade there are less than 50 songs by the team of Mohammed Rafi-Ravi, with various lyricists.

‘PANCHAM-RAFI’ Jodi’s Variety Songs – 5
———————————————————
Welcome all to today’s post which is coming after a long gap of more than two years. In this series we discussed song by ‘Pancham-Rafi’ jodi. This series was basically inspired by an article on the blog ‘Pancham and Only Pancham’ – and the title of the article is ‘Tribute to Rafi Sahab on 28th Death Anniversary‘, published on Rafi Sb’s twenty-eighth ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ on 31.07.2008. This article lists out the ‘variety of songs by the genius -Pancham-Rafi’ jodi based on different ‘genres’ of music.

Rafi Sahab’s Legendary Associations – 3
———————————–————––———
Sar jo tera chakraaye, Ya dil dooba jaaye
Aa jaa pyaare paas hamaare, Kaahe ghabraaye
Kaahe ghabraaye. . .
Ae dil hai mushkil jeena yahaan
Zara hatt ke zara bach ke
Yeh hai bombay meri jaan. . .
Jaane kahan mera jigar gaya ji
Abhi abhi yahi thha kidhar gayaa ji. . .
Gareeb jaan ke hum ko na tum mita dena
Tumhin ne dard diya hai tumhi dawaa denaa
Just to list a few of the famous Rafi solos and duets for Johny Walker.
This series is about collaborations and team work by Rafi Sahab for various artists, mainly with composers, singers and lyricists. But since the song I stumbled upon is too good, atypical rendition by Rafi Sahab for Johnny Walker, as we know the veteran comic actor. So I have included this in the series.

Geeta Dutt – Solos and Duets (04)
———————————–————–
Here is a duet again by Geeta Dutt and Rafi Sahab as song no. 04 of the series. I shall try not to make this series of Raft-Geeta duets songs with every other song by them. No worries there I have a few interesting combination duets and truets lined up for this series and I can be forgiven if it is interspersed with a few of those gems by this jodi. The more popular ones by the likes of OPN and SDB are already in the blog, among the remaining are by music directors who are lesser known.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2011-2021) – Song No. 18
—————————————————————————
This date ten years ago (13 March 2011) saw six songs from six different movies getting discussed in the blog. Here are the details:-
| Blog post number | Song | Movie (Year) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3645 | Nukta cheen hai gham e dil | Yahudi Ki Ladki(1933) | 5 songs covered by now out of 19 |
| 3646 | Abhi shaam aayegi niklenge taare | Samadhi(1950) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 3647 | Ye haseen shaam gardish mein jaam (Teerandaaz) | Teerandaaz(1955) | 3 songs covered out of 6 by now |
| 3648 | Aankh mein shokhi lab pe tabassum | Reshmi Roomaal(1961) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
| 3649 | Jabse ham tum bahaaron mein Multiple version song | Main Shaadi Karne Chalaa(1962) | 5 songs posted out of 9 by now |
| 3650 | Chaandi ki deewaar na todi | Vishwaas(1969) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
One can see that two movies (out of six) whose songs were covered ten years ago are still unYIPPEED and so these movies are eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today. Song of one such movie, namely “Teerandaaz”(1962) has already been taken up earlier today under Blog Ten Year Challenge.
