When my son was born in 1990 my dad was super worried. Well he was worried that I might end up naming my son Kapil Dev (my son shares Kapil Dev’s date of birth-6th Jan) as I am a huge fan of Kapil paaji (as he is said to be called in cricketing circles). He was even more worried when he came to know that Azharuddin could be what I might end up naming my son (as that was the date on which he was given the captain’s cap for the first time, and I am crazy about cricket. I am sure that there are very few who are not crazy about the game in India, right Atul?)

“Laal E Yaman” (1933) was the first movie of JBH Wadia that he produced under his banner of Wadia Movietone. During the making of this movie, he attended a private music concert where he heard a 13 year old kid singing. He gave him the opportunity to sing a song in his movie. He was so pleased with the recording that he asked him to sing more songs in the movie and signed him up as an actor in the movie as well.

Yesterday, just like that, I googled ‘nine thousand’. Did not expect to find anything really interesting and useful to write about. After all, it is just another number. But really, I was surprised. Wow, never thought I would find such an interesting information description that would be so appropriate for this huge milestone that we have arrived at today.

Manna Dey was very dear to all the music lovers, but amongst them were the people, a special class who admired his classical renderings, even many a times the songs were picturized on comedians or character artists. Ever since his demise the media has been rightly informative about his life and works.

Here is the “P” song in the A-Z of Rafi songs series. This is a semi classical solo song composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal in the film ‘Waapas” (1969). The lyricist of this song is the venerable poet Majrooh Sultabpuri. It is Majrooh’s birth anniversary today on 1st October, I have come to realise just now.
