I had mentioned it three days ago that India was in the final of world cup cricket and the nature of songs to be posted by me was going to depend on the outcome of the final. Many readers hoped that they would get to see happy songs in the blog after the final.

I have been discussing the songs of “Parbat Pe Apna Dera” (1944) these days. This movie is a treasure of songs that have been forgotten with time, but which deserve to be much better known. And the fact that the artists singing these songs are those who were active in the pre golden era of Hindi movies, make these songs even more valuable.

“Khoj” (1953) is as obscure a movie as any. This movie apparently had Shammi Kapoor, Mahipal, Kesari, Lalita Kumari, satish etc in it. Out of these actors, Shammi Kapoor and Mahipal went on to become well known actors in future, but even they were largely non entities in 1953 when this movie was released. It is unlikely that this movie helped them advance further in their career, seeing that this movie itself failed to survive at the box office.

I had never heard of this movie called “Sheeshaa” (1952). I do not think that much is known about this movie and its story. All I know is that this movie had actors like Sajjan, Nargis, Kumkum, Amar, Achala Sachdev, Vimla, Cukoo etc in it.

“Hanste Zakhm” (1973) was, not surprisingly (in hindsight) , a commercial disaster. Chetan Anand, the maker of this movie, was so enamoured of Priya Rajwansh that she was the heroine of all his movies, despite her wooden face. No doubt she tried hard, as did others, to perform to the best of their abilities, but this movie had other weak points viz confused storyline, etc.

My readers may have noticed that I have been discussing lots of songs written by Indeewar these days. My readers (if they are interested in cricket) may also know that world cup cricket is also being played these days. so, to borrow a term from cricket, Raja ( a fellow cricket enthusiast) has also noticed that I am giving Indeewar much of the strike. The idea is to help Indeewar complete his century of songs in this blog.
