Today’s song is a bhajan from an obscure film ‘Mali’ (1944), which makes its Debut here.

The film is about a Marathi Sant SAVTA MALI, who is not known much outside Maharashtra. He was one of the saints during the Bhakti Movement in India. The film was made by Rajkamal Chitra, as a bilingual film. In Marathi it was titled ‘Bhakticha Mala’ (‘भक्तीचा मळा’) and in Hindi it was ‘Mali’ (‘माली’). It was directed by V Shantaram.

I was not aware of a film titled ‘Parinati’ (1986) which is pronounced in Hindi as परिणति (Inevitable). In fact, when I came across the title of the film on the internet a few days back, I was subconsciously reading it as ‘Parineeta’. The film was available for viewing on one of the video sharing platforms. I watched the film last week and found it to be gripping and heart wrenching.

Today’s song is a traditional bhajan from a Mythological film Shabri-1947.

This was a Mythological film, the story of which we all know since our childhood. This was a film made in Calcutta by Rajeshwari Kala Mandir. The film was directed by R.C.Deepak. He seems to be a “One film wonder” in direction. Lyricists names are not mentioned in HFGK or internet. The Music Director was Pt. Ganapat Rao. There are 12 songs, but details of only 3 songs (including one two sided song sung by Jaganmoy Mitra aka Jagmohan Sursagar) are available. The cast of the film was Molina, Gopal Mehra, Biman Banerjee, Kishore, Premkumari, Beena, Preetidhara and Sunder singh. All these, except Sunder, look like Bangla artistes, for whom information is difficult to collate, barring Molina.

Hullo Atuldom

27th June – a favorite music director, singer and one-time actor would have turned 84. His name at birth was Rahul and his parents were Meera & Sachin Dev Burman. # Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Missing movies of 1973-Hifaazat-23)
——————————————-—————————

Today we pay our tributes to one of the greatest music directors of Hindi Cinema i.e. Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on this day i.e. 27th June, 1939 and passed away on 04th Jaunary, 1994. Had he been alive today he would have turned eighty four years old. But he left us at the age of fifty-five only. In his last days he suffered on both health ground and mentally he was upset for treatment given to him in those troubled days by the industry and peoples around him.

Today I am presenting a song from a lesser known movie where the music was composed by RD Burman. This movie is ‘Hifaazat’ from 1973. This movie is making its debut on the blog today.

Today’s song is from a not so well known but deserving film – Saudamini (1950).

In Hindi (and in almost all indian languages) films, well known and popular dramas, Novels, Stories and the famous writers have played a significant role in providing material to make logical and meaningful films with a message to the people or a particular society. I can say that films based infamous and popular writings have been made into more qualitative presentations than films on Folk stories and Historical Myths.

#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
———————————————————————
Today’s song is from the movie ‘Bandish’ from 1969.

I was not aware of this song till 2018 when I took up to present a write-up on singer Jaspal Singh for the song “Jin Khoja Tin Paayian Gehre Paani Paith” from the movie ‘Paayal Ki Jhankaar’ (1980) which was posted on the blog on 02.04.2018. This article is a part of the series I am presenting on the ‘special voices of the seventies’ and Jaspal Singh is one of those voices. So far I have presented nine posts in this series and there are more yet to come in the future.
