“Sipahiya”(1949) is a movie few people have heard about, leave aside knowing about. Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, has all the information about this movie, of course. Here is what he has to say about this obscure movie:

We have heard a song that advises people to jump into a well but avoid getting married. 🙂 This song was sung by Kishore Kumar in “Parivaar”(1956). This funny song was discussed in the blog as far back as in 2009.

People tend to promise themselves that they would turn a new leaf on the new year. So they begin with the right earnest on the new year day only to falter immediately afterwards. 🙂 My promise to myself on such occasions are similar to electoral promises made by candidates which must not be taken seriously by voters if they have learnt from past experiences. 🙂

Chaandni raaten – Song no. 15
———————————-

This is one delightful duet song which talks of ‘chanda ki goad’, ‘ taaron ki chhaaon’ ,’baadal ki oat’ saawan ki raat ‘ and ‘roothna manaana’ and so on and so forth. This is song no. 15 of chaandni raaten series. Rafi sahab is in his elements singing this teasing duet with Chaand Wirk. On a clear night, one can see a million stars in the sky. While there are the bright and shining stars that will readily draw the viewer’s gaze, the sky is full of more distant dots of light that twinkle with a dimmer light. For every bright and luminous star, there are a score of dimmer stars that dot the tapestry of heavens, completing the intricate design of the skies. Without these less luminous partners, the sky would look barren, as it does on the nights when there is smog in the air. The viewer’s gaze can then make out just a handful of the more luminous stars, while the spread of the sky is simply an austere shade of grey, bare and lonely.

Chaandni raaten – song no. 14
———————————

In one of the earlier posts in this series, I mixed up two songs ‘aadha hai chandrama raat aadhi’ and ‘chal jaa re hat natkhat’. There was more than one regulars on the blog who volunteered with the correction. It is a good sign, that small talk that I make in my posts are being read at least. 🙂 The comments containing additional information about the movie, lyricist and words of appreciation are motivating, even if not always replied to individually.
