When I began this blog, I discussed songs at the rate of one song per day. Soon I began to discuss more songs every day. With time, I created pages to keep the list of songs in some order. Now there are pages that list songs by movie, by music director as well as by year.

I am a big fan of Ravi. He is perhaps the only music director who was around when the golden era of Hindi movie music began to the time this era was finally gone for ever. His career began as a chorus singer in late 1940s,then he became assistant to Hemant Kumar (he was his assistant in “Naagin” (1954)) and then he became an independent music director with “Vachan” (1955). From then on till 1980s, he composed songs, many of which became so popular that they ended up becoming iconic songs. I in fact describe Ravi as a composer of iconic songs.

What is it that makes a song enjoyable ? It is not just one aspect of the song, rather one enjoys several things about it. It is the voice of the singer, as well as the music that appeals to the ears, it is also the lyrics. In fact, the contribution of lyrics in making a soul can never be overemphasised. I am always fond of saying that lyrics are the soul of songs and it the lyrics that makes songs come alive. That is why I give so much importance to the lyrics of the song.
