I had mentioned a little known fact in some earlier posts that Madan Mohan had once given music for an Amitabh Bachchan movie. Here is another little known fact- Amitabh Bachchan has also worked in a Rajshri productions movie. And this Rajshri production movie was very much a small budget deglamourised affair as was the case for all Rajshri productions movies of those days.

This was a wonderful “paayaliya” song from “Jugnu” (1973), before the newer “paayaliya ” song came up two decades later in “Deewaana” (1992).

“Manchali” (1971) was a nice light hearted movie featuring Sanjeev Kumar and Leena Chandawarkar. This movie had some nice songs and I have already posted two songs from this movie.

Few people have heard the name of this movie and fewer people may have heard this song, but that was not the case all the time. During 1973, this song “tere sau deewaane” used to be quite a popular song.

“Joshila” (1973) is one of the lesser known movies starring Dev Anand with the then young heroines Hema Malini and Rakhi. The movie failed at the box office and few people recall what this movie was all about.

During 1970s, when I would try to tune radio Ceylon on wednesday night between 8 PM to 9 PM, tuning to the desired station was not as easy as it is for TV stations. There were so many radio stations on the same 25 metre band and getting a clear reception of Radio Ceylon, while avoiding voices of Voice of America, BBC etc was quite an art.

In India, most couples have arranged marriages, but you could not realise that by watching Bollywood movies, where every hero and his sidekick seemed to fall in love and sing romantic songs. To the credit of Bollywood actors, a few on screen lovers of Bollywood movies actually tied the knots too. Examples being Amitabh-Jaya, Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh etc.
