I had thought that Rafi-Lata duets were all posted in the blog. I have looked in the list some years back, trying to find a duet of these two for the Rafi series. Among the old songs of 50’s and 60’s there were none to be found. Only one film in the 60s had a song, which was a mythological movie and the song audio video was very bad. Even then I had saved it but eventually posted that group song from “Kranti” and that was that.

Then out of the blue I saw a duet posted by Sadanand Kamath Sir. Then I realised, that I may not have gone through the whole list, and left the job halfway, losing hope. For once, I gave up too soon.

‘Safed Jhoothh’ (1977) was produced by Ashim Kumar and was directed by Basu Chatterjee. The cast included Ashok Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Mithu Mukherjee, Deven Verma, Manik Dutt, Aroop Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Geeta Kak etc. Pradeep Kumar and Amol Palekar made their guest appearances in the film. The film is a remake of Bengali film, ‘Chhutir Phandey’ (1975) with Soumitra Chatterjee, Aparna Sen and Utpal Dutt as main actors.

This film is one of the lesser known among the films directed by Basu Chatterjee who have directed many ‘middle of the road’ films. The Ajmer born and Mathura bred Basu Chatterjee (10/01/1927 – 04/06/2020) migrated to Mumbai in 1948 and worked as a cartoonist in ‘Current’ and ‘Blitz’ for about 18 years before venturing into Hindi films as Assistant Director under Basu Bhattacharya for ‘Teesri Kasam’ (1966) and under Govind Saraiya for ‘Saraswatichandra (1968). ‘Saara Aakaash’ (1969) was his first independently directed film which got him his first Filmfare Award for the Best Screenplay. The films which brought him accolades were ‘Rajanigandha’ (1974) followed by ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ (1975), ‘Chitchor’ (1976). Thereafter, he directed many films, most of which belonged to ‘middle of the road cinema’. In all, he directed 42 films and 8 TV serials during his career of four decades.

In this post I am presenting a duet sung by Kishore Kumar and Sharda which is composed by Sharda. I guess this is one of the very few duets they sung together and this must be the first of them to appear on this blog today.

The movie ‘Mandir Masjid-1977’ was directed by Mohammad Hussain for ‘K.K. Movies, Bombay’. Krishan Karim was the producer of this movie which was passed by the Censor Board on 20.07.1977. This movie has in its cast Nutan, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Raza Murad, Yogita Bali, Sajid Khan, Jaya Kaushalya, Rajesh Laher, Nazir Hussain, Lalita Pawar, Madan Puri, Jagdeep, Sanjana, Praveen Paul, and Kamran. They were supported by Shivraj, Mushtaq Merchant, Shaikh, Moolchand, Sabir, Master Hussain, Master Shahid, and others. Jagirdar, Murad, Manorama and Bhawan had special appearances in this movie. Story of this movie was written by S. Raza and its screenplay and dialogues were written by Kafeel Azar. Editing of this movie was done by Moosa Mansur.

‘Ooparwaala Jaane'(1977) was produced and directed by Naresh Saigal. The cast included Vinod Mehra and Rehana Sultan in the lead roles supported by Abhi Bhattacharya, Shailesh Kumar, Lalita Kumari, Asit Sen, Laxmi Chhaya, Ratna, Jasbir, Rajan Haksar etc. The film was released on November 28, 1977.

Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 62

The next song in the AB rare song series is “Khoye Ho Aakhir Kis Bekhudi Mein” by Asha Bhosle and Chorus. The song is written by Yogesh Gaud and composed by RD Burman. This song is from Asrani’s “Chala Murari Hero Ban Ne” (1977).

Details taken from earlier posts mention that this movie was produced by Surinder Kumar Sharma and directed by Asrani for Asrani enterprises, Bombay. Asrani had acted in this movie in the title role. The movie also had Bindiya Goswami and Simi Garewal in special appearances. Others in the movie were Helen, A.K.Hangal, Bunty, Keshto Mukherji, Satyen Kappu, David, Paintal, etc. The film had a long list of guest appearances by Ashok Kumar, Hema Malini, Leena Chandavarkar , Dharmendra, Aruna Irani, Premnath, Ajit, Harindranath Chattopadhyaya, Jankidas, Neetu Singh, Ranjeet, Nazir Hussain, Bunty, Amitabh Bachhan, Rishi Kapoor, Mushtaq Jalili, J.Omprakash, Sawan Kumar Tak and Shakti Samant.

Bhojpuri movie “Dangal-1977” was a social movie. It was directed by Bachu Bhai Shah for Vimal Chitra, Bombay. It was passed by the Censor Board on 11.05.1977. The cast of this movie included Sujit Kumar, Prema Narayan, Ram Singh, Iftekhar, Urmila Bhatt, Mukhtar Ahmed, Hari Shukla , Shubha Khote, C.S. Dubey, Shefali, Shekhar Purohit, Bhagwan Sinha, Dilip Sinha, Shahana, Rajrani, Bhushan Tiwari, Lakshmi Chhaya Aruna Irani and child artistes Rakhi-Umesh, and others. This movie has six songs which were composed to music by Nadeem-Shravan. Lyricist Kulwant Jani-four songs, Rajpati – one song and S. Bhaskar – one song shared the lyrics writing.
