When I meet people and I tell them that I have a blog of old songs, I get some well meaning advices, suggestions etc. One of these well meaning suggestions is that I need not re invent the wheel as far as writing down the lyrics of the song is concerned. “Baalika Badhu” (Child bride) as the name suggests was a movie made on the theme of child marriage. In this movie, Sachin and Rajni Sharma play the children who get married to each other. Sachin has some idea of what marriage is all about but his bride (played by a then thirteen year old Rajni Sharma) is mentally still a child. The dilemma of a teenage boy dealing with his wife who is still a kid was depicted nicely in this movie.

“Wo Din Yaad Karo” is a movie that was released in 1971. Though I was very much around in 1971 , I have absolutely no recollection of this movie. Obviously this movie had flopped big time. At that time, when Rajesh Khanna was ruling the roost, who was going to watch a movie starring Sanjay Khan and Nanda? No one really.

When it comes to titles for Hindi movies, most of these titles are one to three words long and then tend to have certain common Hindi/Urdu words in them. Combination of an adjective like Badi/Chhoti plus a noun for a woman itself may yield half a dozen or more titles. Then using words like Afsaanaa/fasaanaa/Kahaani either alone or in combination of a few other words leads to many titles. The possibilities are in fact endless.

“Night in London” (1967) is a movie that was clearly inspired from “An Evening in Paris” (1966). “Night in Paris” (1967) had Vishwajeet and Mala Sinha (as against Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore in “An Evening in Paris”). On the music front, “Night in London” had the fast rising Laxmikant Pyarelal.

I had heard this song a lot during its time. this song was a regular song in Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation’s “aaphi ke geet” programme broadcast in the morning from 8 AM to 9 AM. In addition, this song was a popular loudspeaker song as well.
