#The Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Alag Alag-1985’. It was the most ambitious & hyped project of actor-producer Rajesh Khanna which failed at the box office. Though the music of the movie by R.D. Burman made waves and a couple of the songs from this movie became popular too, the good musical score by R.D. Burman too could not help the film much. The music of this movie lost out because of the music of other movies like ‘Ram Teree Gangaa Mailee’ and ‘Pyaar Jhuktaa Naheen’ etc which were released in the same year i.e. 1985.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————-

Today I present the second song from the movie ‘Mutthi Bhar Chaawal’ (1975). This movie had made its debut on the blog on 31.03.2015, wherein I had presented the first song from this movie. I remember well that, in 2015, only one song from this movie was available on internet, however now all songs from this movie are available (but in audio format only).

Today’s song is from an Unique film – Sardar-1955.

The film is unique not because its story was different or due to its cast. It had not won any award also and it was not an extraordinarily successful film. Then what made it a unique film ?

In this article, I have taken up for discussion the tragic story of the first super star of the Marathi stage and films whom I had followed during his rise in Marathi stage and films in my younger days. He was stated to be the highest paid actor – both for stage and films – during 1960s and 70s. A series of his Marathi stage plays, and films brought him stardom and a massive fan following. He also worked in two major Hindi films as second lead actor during his period of stardom. However, he could not handle his sudden adulations and glamour. The result was that he became arrogant, unprofessional and finally alcoholic. In 1983 onwards after reforming himself, his stage career was on the pick up when he suddenly passed away. The name of that actor was Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar.

Today’s song is from the film Pyar ki Baaten-1951.

The year 1951 was a mixed affair. After the end of II WW and especially after our Independence, there was a flood of people with Black money to produce films, earn profits and convert Black money to white money. This caused several films of low quality being made. Some of them tried to make copies of Hollywood films too. Luckily, everything wasn’t that bad and few good films also were made.

Today’s song is from the film Paak Daman-1957.

The story of this and other such same titled films was from a popular stage drama of the early 1900s. There were many versions of the story with small and big variations. The Parsi Urdu Theatre’s dramas were penned by Agha Hashra Kashmiri, known as Shakespeare of India. The Parsi Gujarati plays were written by various authors. Syed Yawar Aliu, a student of Dagh Dehlvi penned the script for the Moon Parsi Theatre. The Alfred drama company had their own version of this story.
