In my younger days, the name of the film FUNTOOSH (1956) sounded to me a bit bizarre. I had also heard people using this Hinglish lingo as adjectives in different context. I had no occasion to watch this movie but judging (or misjudging) from the name of the film, I thought that it was a comedy movie and the song ‘ye meri topi palat ke aah’ was a pointer to that. It was only later when I heard ‘dukhi man mere’ I felt that the film was of a different genre.

Music director N Dutta started his career as an independent composer in 1955. That year, two films were released which have music created by him. The films are ‘Marine Drive’ and ‘Milaap’. The musical scores are very impressive in both these films, and that set the pace for N Dutta’s career in subsequent years. But as I reviewed the remaining songs from this film, there is still a few gems contained in these movies that need to be discussed here. It has been mentioned by several readers that Dev Anand appeared almost immortal to them and it was inconceivable to them that he could ever die. But time and tide waits for none and everyone has to succumb some day. Dev Anand breathed his last on 3rd of december 2011 at the age of 88. He led an active life till the end. His zest for life and his youthful exuberance is something that is difficult to emulate for most people. With time , he had lost weight and had shrunk as was bound to happen, but his mental faculties continues to be sharp and he could still walk on his feet. Most people can only dream of such physical fitness if they ever live up to that age.
