Today’s song is from the film Bambai ki Billi aka Wild Cat-1960.

This was a Stunt film, produced by Aspy Irani for his own banner – Super Pictures, Bombay. The film was directed by Zahoor Ahmed. The music was by Khayyam. He was assisted by Bipin and Mehboob. This Bipin was a part of Bipin-Babul duo, who gave music to 12 films together as a team. After leaving Khayyam, Bipin assisted Madan Mohan, where Babul was already an assistant. They joined hands and made a pair of Composers as Bipin-Babul.

Geeta Dutt – Solos and duets (03)
———————————–

My comment on the 900th song post of Geeta Dutt’s songs :

Congratulations on completing 900 songs of Geeta Dutt. Out of the 500 plus songs that remain to covered in the blog, there are many which sound so beautiful. I have made a short list of her duets and solos yet to be posted and it is difficult to decide on one. In fact I wrote down the lyrics of two such song over the weekend.

Like Husnlal-Bhagatram’s songs, I find it difficult to move past an unheard song by Geeta Dutt. Somehow she captivates the listener on first hearing. A truly gifted and versatile artist.

Geeta Dutt – Solos and duets (02)
————————————–————————————–

Among Geeta Dutt’s endearing songs, there are innumerable duets. Maximum no. of her duets is bound to be with Mohammed Rafi sahab, for the obvious reason that at the times she was most active, coincides with the period when various music directors were having all male songs sung by Rafi sahab. So there are films where Rafi sahab has duets with Lata, Asha and Geeta, plus solos by all of them, with a female duet also thrown it. This would be a typical late 50’s music score. Sometimes a female singer or two are changed and Shamshad Begum is there, with one solo and/or duet.

This is a tribute post for Datta Naik, also known as N Datta, on his 33 death anniversary. Today (23 november 2020) is the 90th birth anniversary of Geeta Dutt (23 November 1930- 20 July 1972). I was aware of this fact yesterday itself, seeing that I had received several contributions for the occasion. Moreover, this date, which happens to be a monday, is also a day when I present my weekly series of Lata Mangeshkar songs sung in a particular calender year- a very research heavy project. So, my hands were full on sunday (22 november) preparing for all these articles to be published on 23 november 2020.

kuchh aur zamaana kehta hai kuchh aur hai zidd mere dil ki
main baat zamaane ki maanoon ya baat sunoon apne dil ki

This was the swan song from ‘Chhoti Chhoti Baaten’ (1965) both for the singer and the music director of the song as this was their last film in Mumbai before shifting lock stock and barrel to Delhi in 1963. The playback singer was Meena Kapoor and the music director was Anil Biswas. In relation to her romantic affairs with Anil Biswas in the early 1950s, just like in the above two-liner, she was in a quandary. But her heart was adamant (aur hai zidd mere dil ki) that led to a long partnership with Anil Biswas irrespective of what the society said about their relationship.
