Today’s song is a comedy song from the film Gazal-1945. It is ‘ sung ‘ by comedian N.M.Charlie.

Though the playback system started in India in 1935, it had not become popular immediately for various reasons. Most important reason was, due to the poor quality of stage type songs in films, not many records were made and sold. Additionally, there was an acute shortage of playback singers for the films. Slowly, over a period, the picture changed and by 1940, the playback system was firmly entrenched in films. This not only increased the number of songs recorded and the subsequent increase in their sales, but also newer playback singers were discovered and encouraged to sing for films.

This movie had made its debut on the blog on 13.08.2014, and so far only five songs from this movie have been posted on this blog. Considering that this movie has twelve songs as mentioned in HFGK Vol-II (1941-1950) we are a long way off from getting all songs of this movie on board here on the blog. It is also quite possible that a few of the songs may not be available.

The cast of the film was Sulochana Chaterjee, Shaikh Mukhtar, Geeta Bali, Jawahar Kaul, Ramsingh, p.Kailash, pesi Patel, Honey O’Brien, Yeshwant Dave, Rewa Shankar Marwadi and many more. There were 7 Lyricists for 11 songs of the film (one of them is a 2 part song). Likewise there were 6 singers. The M.D. was Gyan Dutt. All the singers were well known, except the singer ‘ Bhola’.

The film was one of the 8 films that his son-Virendra Desai – directed in his failed career. Music was provided to the 12 songs written by Rammurthy Chaturvedi, Kailash G Matwala and Pt. Indra, by Gyan Dutt who had recently left his long association with Ranjit Movietone. The cast of the film was Nalini Jayawant, Karan Dewan, Kamla Chaterjee, Ansari, Pratima Devi, Dulari, Mukesh, Nagendra M, M Kumar, and many others.
