Today (8 june 2019) is the birthday of Dimple Khanna nee Kapadia (Dob 8 june 1957). She was 16 years old when her debut movie “Bobby”(1973) took Hindi movie world by storm. This dubut movie was goin to be her first and only movie for next decade. After “Bobby”(1973) came the surprise announcement of her marriage to the reigning superstar Rajesh Khanna in 1973. Rajesh Khanna at that time was 31, viz twice in age to her.

No other month begins with a day that is named after itself.  It is only the month of May that starts with a day that is called May Day.  Historically, this specific day has a long history of cultural and social significance.  A history that goes back to pre-Christ era.  The Romans used to celebrate this day as a spring festival.  The festival was called Floralia, in the honor of Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers.  Further north, in Germany, this day was celebrated as Walburgis Night.  Coinciding with the arrival of summer weather in the European continent, this day was also celebrated as the first day of summer in some regions.  Community fairs were held, with the traditional dancing around the Maypole, and the beauty contest to select and crown the ‘Queen of May’.  People used to distribute anonymous gifts, called May Baskets, in their neighborhoods.

There have been songs and songs on the lives of courtesans or Tawaifs as they are called. And there have been many songs where a “tawaif” with a golden heart will fall in love with a sweet boy next door kind of hero. And it will take the hero the whole of the movie to realize that he also loves the “tawaif”. The only difference will be the route the movie will take to help the hero reach his enlightenment about his love for the lady in question.
