Today’s song is from an obscure film Insaan-1952.
The year of 1952 – It was just 5 years since we got our Independence and only 2 years after we became a Sovereign Democratic Republic, totally and actually free from the last contact with the British Empire, like being called a ‘Dominion Republic’. The General Elections were over and a Congress Government, as expected, took over as the new ruler. As far as the film industry was concerned, there was a huge crowd of new producers, who had a lot of black money to invest. This increased the number of films, but the quality was the victim. The proportion of quantity and quality was inverse. Film federation or the Indian government was unable to control this influx of outsiders.

06/10/2020 – 74th birth anniversary of Vinod Khanna
——————————————————————————-
This duet song by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle is one more song from the 80’s and radio days. This remained in the memory as a very good song from the film ‘Insaan” 1982, starring Vinod Khanna, Jeetendra and Reena Roy. I looked up this song again a few days ago for including in the Rafi series, as there are no duets in the series. But I am not including it there, instead posting it as a anniversary post for Vinod Khanna. The song is sung on screen by Vinod Khanna and Reena Roy.

Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 15
———————————————————
During the British rule in India, film censorship was introduced under Indian Cinematography Act, 1918 under which the films could be exhibited only after getting certification from the Censor Boards. During the height of freedom struggles, film censorship was used as a tool to discourage political and socio-economic issues which were perceived to be anti-British rule in India. In the talkie era, ‘Mill’ (Mazdoor, 1934) was probably the first Indian film to be banned for exhibition by the Censor Board after the film was released. The story and script written by Munshi Premchand dealt with the exploitation of labourers by a Mill owner. The film was considered to contain inflammatory undertones creating a rift betwen the labourers and owners in factories.
