When this blog was started more than three years ago, it used to be one song a day blog, and the song used to be of my own choice. With time, I started receiving farmaishes and I would try to comply with them. Soon I was inundated with so many farmaishes that I was left with a pending list running into many hundreds of songs, if not more.

1959 was the busiest year in the career of music director N Dutta. That year, seven films with music composed by him, were released. (Six of these films are already represented in this blog. ‘Naach Ghar’ is one film that is awaiting entry here). And the music of these films is notable and still remembered – films like ‘Black Cat’, ‘Dhool Ka Phool’, ‘Didi’, ‘Bhai Bahen’, ‘Mr. John’, and ‘Jaalsaaz’.

“Where have all the loris (lullabies) gone from the contemporary Hindi films?’ This question haunts me as I don’t find lori songs in the present day Hindi films unless I have missed them. Alternatively I may have heard them but did not get the feel of a lori song. In a way, it is a reflection on our present generation where the lori songs as a soothing device on kids for putting them to sleep early has been almost forgotten. I find that at least in the metropolis, most parents have no time to sing a 3-minute lori to put their kids to sleep.

In my younger days, the name of the film FUNTOOSH (1956) sounded to me a bit bizarre. I had also heard people using this Hinglish lingo as adjectives in different context. I had no occasion to watch this movie but judging (or misjudging) from the name of the film, I thought that it was a comedy movie and the song ‘ye meri topi palat ke aah’ was a pointer to that. It was only later when I heard ‘dukhi man mere’ I felt that the film was of a different genre.

Film MAASHUKAA(1953) had 9 songs, 8 of which were sung by Mukesh and Suraiyya and the remaining song “ye sama hum tum jawaan” by Kishore Kumar and Meena Kapoor. The song was written by Shailendra and composed by Roshan. I had heard this song on Radio FM Gold about 3 years back but located the audio clip of this song on YT few months back. The film was produced by Mukesh with himself and Suraiyya as the lead pair. Other cast included Agha, Kuldup Kaur, Durga Khote and Amirbai Karnataki. Four songs from this film have already been discussed in this blog.

On the occasion of the 63rd republic day of India (26th january 2012), we are discussing a few patriotic songs today.
Here is a song of this genre from “Aakraman” (1975). This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and it is picturised on Rajesh Khanna, who plays a handicapped person who has lost one leg and is forced to walk with the help of crutches. He sings this patriotic songs to encourage the Armymen who are proceeding to the battlefield. The picturisation also shows Sanjeev Kumar and several others play fauzi jawaans in this song.
