(Kishore Kumar’s 39th Remembrance Day 13th October 2025)

Yesterday 13th October 2025 was the 39th Remembrance Day of the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. He was born on 4th August 1929 at Khandwa (now in Madhya Pradesh) and he passed away at the age of fifty-eight only on 13th Octorber 1987 at Bombay (now Mumbai).

We are all aware Kishore Kumar started his singing career with the 1948 movie ‘Ziddi’ where he had given playback for actor Dev Anand. This was the song ‘marne ki duaayein kyun maangoon’. Kishore Kumar’s peak-time came during the end-of-sixties, and the decade of seventies was when Kishore Kumar’s voice was heard everywhere. He sang songs for many of the established actors as well as new-comers in the industry. And of course he was well-known as the voice of Dev Anand and voice of the Superstar-Rajesh Khanna.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

#Bhoole-Bisre Geet #

Today is the last day of the ten-day long ‘Durga Pooja Utsav’ or ‘Navraatree festival’ of this year 2025. The effigies of the demon Ravana are being burnt all over the country to celebrate the victory of Good over the evil. The ten day long staging of Ram Leela will also come to an end today.

Ram Leela is performed in many parts of our country. I was thinking of the past decades from the mid-eighties onwards and I realised that many changes have taken place in the presentation of Raamleelaa thanks to the advancement of technology with time. This can be noticed when the scene on the stage changes from one part to other, where the set up is required to be changed. In olden times the curtains were rolled down to change the backdrop of the characters performing on stage. My guess is that this would have undergone a sea change nowadays where we have technology to help us.

People born before nineties who would have attended Raamleelaa shows in their town or villages must have been witness to funny situations arising during the plays because of various reasons such as forgetting the dialogues, or disruptions due to sudden power-cut etc. These unplanned events during the show would have created situations of laughter and comedy for the audiences.

Today’s song is from a unique film- Love in Bombay-1975.

It is generally said that records are for breaking. It means, in any field, if a record of achievement is made, sometime or the other, that record is broken. Some records are such that one feels, ‘now this will never be broken. It is the ultimate’.

“Ye Vaada Raha”(1982) was a very popular movie with the teenagers of those days, but apparently the grown up section of the population did not like the movie much and so the movie received a lukewarm response at the box office. Personally I was barely aware of this movie and I did not watch it seeing that I only watched Amitabh Bachchan movies those days.

“Ye Vaada Raha”(1982) was produced by Ramesh Bahl and directed by Kapil Kapoor for Rose movies, Bombay. This “social” movie had Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Poonam Dhillon, Sarika, Rakhi, Rakesh Bedi, Ifthikar, Agha, Sunder, Gulshan Bawra, Hari Shivdasani, Chandu Prakash, Madan Joshi, Shrimati Mistri, Prasad, Pappu, Geeta, Aditya, Shanta, Salma, Asha, Avinash Thakur etc in it. Shammi Kapoor had played a special role in this movie.

In this post I am again presenting a lesser heard song which may well be considered a rare song. This song is in the voice of Kishore Kumar. The movie is ‘Raani Aur Jaani-1973’. This seems to be a very obscure movie of its time. Though this movie made its debut on the blog long back in the year 2009 the movie still remains un-Yippeeee’ed’ on the blog.

“Raani Aur Jaani-1973” was directed by K.S.R. Dass for ‘P.N.R. Pictures, Madras’.This stunt movie was passed by Censor Board on 08.11.1973. The cast of this movie had Anil Dhawan, Aruna Irani, Jyoti Lakshmi, Narendra Nath, Jagdeep, Sulochana, Ramaprabha, Brahm Bharadwaj, Shetty, Coca Cola, Shekhar, Swaraj, Prem Kumar, Master Ripal Sapru, Baby Dally, Baby Charulata and others. Bindu had a special appearance in this movie.

This is once again a very very rare song sung by the one and only Kishore Kumar. The song is penned by Naqsh Layallpuri and composed by Sapan Jagmohan.

A few days ago I had introduced this movie on the blog with this song.

As mentioned in my earlier post, “Siskiyaan” (1982) was produced and directed by Rana Jung Singh. It had music by Sapan Jagmohan. The songs were written by Naqsh Layallpuri, M G Hashmat and Shiv Kumar Saroj.
