I have noticed that Hindi movies rarely show actors keeping pets like say cats and dogs. When I was growing up in 1960s and 1970s, most Indian families regarded keeping pets a luxury that average families could ill afford. Then there were people who were superstitious and they thought that a cat especially black one crossing their path was inauspicious. Only villains would keep pets in Hindi movies.

Madan Mohan made his debut as a music director in 1950. In his debut movie “Aankhen” (1950), he used many singers, but curiously enough, Lata was not among them. From his next movie, Lata became an important singer for him.

Talat Mehmood is widely regarded as the King of Ghazals as far as singing Ghazals is concerned. And Madan Mohan is described as the king of Ghazals as far as composing ghazals is concerned.

II have barely heard of this movie called “Maharaja” (1970). This movie had Sanjay Khan and Nutan in it, and this movie must have sung without a trace when it was released in 1970. To this day, I have not been able to understand how Sanjay Khan made it in Hindi movies as a hero. I in fact wonder if he ever had a loyal fan following that most heroes have.Compared to him, someone like Shashi Kapoor (whom I regard as no good) should be regarded as a superstar. If one has to make a list of movies that succeeded because of Sanjay Khan, one may well draw a blank. I am not at all surprised if this movie “Maharaja” (1970) fell miserably at the box office.

“Shabistaan” (1951) was an Arabian Nights kind of fantasy movie. Such kind of movie were then regarded as B grade movie. “Stunt” movie was another name for such movies because these movies had lots of fights in them. In fact, Shyam, the hero of this movie, died on the stage of this movie while performing a stunt. He was riding a horse when he fell from the horse and died. To this date, this is regarded as one of the major disasters on the sets of Hindi movies.

Most music fans run away from classical music, especially the pucca raags as sung by Ustaads. Most songs in Hindi movies are still derived from classical raags, but they are light songs which are made easy for the ordinary music lovers to follow and appreciate.

“Railway Platform” (1955) is a movie which is now known as the debut movie of Sunil Dutt. Apart from that, this movie also has some nice songs in it, including the iconic song Basti basti parwat parwat gaataa jaaye banjaaraa
