“Sangeet Samrat Tansen” (1962) was a labour of love for S N Tripathi. This movie was a Sur Sagar Chitra Production. It was directed by S N Tripathi. A movie was made on the fife of Tansen two decades ago and there the lead role was played by K L Saigal and the musical score of that movie was unparalleled. So S N Tripathi had a lot to live up to. It must be siad that the music of “Sangeet samrat Tansen” (1962) stood up to the scrutity very well. It is other matter that the movie, being a B grade movie, may not have created box office records.
