Song-O sitamgar aasmaan (Mamta)(1952) Singer-Mubarak Begam, Lyrics-Shyam Hindi, MD-Sonik

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

naam tera bhool jaaun
tere bandhan tod doon
ji mein aata hai tujhe
bhagwaan kehna chhod doon

o o o sitamgar
aasmaan jaaun kahaan
jaaun kahaan
o sitamgar
aasmaan jaaun kahaan
jaaun kahaan
besahaara ho gaya hai
zindagi ka kaarwaan
o sitamgar aasmaan

jis din se tera naam chamka
hum wahi insaan hain
yaad kar tujh par huye
har baar hum qurbaan hain
yaad kar tujh par huye
har baar hum qurbaan hain
roz humpe hi giri
tere sitam ki bijliyaan
o o o sitamgar aasmaan

chaahte hain hum tujhe jitna
tu utna door hai
sangdil hokar nazar kyun
iss qadar magroor hai
sangdil hokar nazar kyun
iss qadar magroor hai
mit gaye gar hum
samajh le
mit gaya tera nishaan
o sitamgar aasmaan
jaaun kahaan
jaaun kahaan

It is generally seen in many cases, when the nature or misfortune or destiny, inflict a handicap on a person, then the same nature itself will nurtures another aspect, another ability of that person and bestow another sensory gift to the individual. In our own sphere of awareness, I am sure we have seen many examples of individuals having some very debilitating handicap, but it is a wonder of nature that we see such individuals excel in something, some activity, some accomplishment, some art that at time defies belief.

Suchitra Sen – Passing of a Legend
————————————–

The one thing that always fascinates me about her, is her eyes. In all the Hindi films that I have seen, and a couple of her Bangla films, the memory that stays in the mind is that of a very beautiful face, adorned with the loveliest of eyes that I can remember. Large, round, full of expressions of life. It is as if the term doe-eyed was coined just for her.

Mukesh, a name synonymous with the sounds of the soul, a name the evokes memories of music that wouldn’t have been possible, but for him, a name that sits so simply and comfortably within the strands and threads of a thousand songs that have been blessed with the touch of this expressive and poignant voice. Songs, that may otherwise have been relegated to anonymity and obscurity, had they not been sung by this vocalist of Gods.

The reasons why the songs from the golden era of Bollywood music (circa 1950-1980) still retain their magic
are-
(1) the creators of these songs devoted time and energy to create them
(2) the creators were extremely talented and committed
(3) the listeners of these songs did not have too many other means of entertainment so they too listened to these songs with interest and by paying undivided attention.
