I had not heard the name of the film BEETE DIN (1947). What prompted me to know about this film was a song ‘arshon pe sitaara hai wo’ from this film which is sung by Mukesh and M A Rauf (Osmania), one of the two music directors in the film. The song’s composition is somewhat different than what one usually finds in most of Hindi film songs. There is no repetition of lines of mukhda in the antaras. The tune is more or less the same for both the mukhda and antaras.

The song I have chosen for discussion is a Mukesh-Shamshad duet ‘moti chugne gayi re hansi maansarovar teer’ from the film ‘CHHEEN LE AZAADI (1947) which I have been all along assuming to have already beencovered in the blog. Now I find that this duet is yet to be discussed in the blog. The reason for my erroneous assumption was that some time back our dear Sudhir had taken up the mission of posting Mukesh songs pertaining to 1940s.

“Jalti Nishaani” (1957) was a Emsheth production movie. It was directed by Harish. The movie had Kamal Kapoor, Geeta Bali, Kuldeep Kaur, Sundar, Ulhaas, Chaman Puri etc in it.

“Sultaan e Aalam” (1956) was produced by H P Mehra. The movie had Mahipal, Chitra, Heeralal, Kuldip Kaur etc in it.

“Majboor” (1948) was a Bombay Talkies Production. It was directed by Nazir Ajmeri. The movie had Shyam, Sohan, Amir Banu, Munawwar Sultana, Indu, Shivraj etc in it.

Tujh ko yoon dekha hai

“Chand Grahan” was a movie that was made sometime in 1970s but it never got released. It was only in 1997 that the audio of this movie were finally released. By that time the singer (Mukesh) as well as the music director (Jaidev) were no longer around.

We in this blog initially discussed just movie songs. Once I discussed a K L Saigal song and it turned out that it was a non film song (NFS). Several regulars of the blog then lobbied for the inclusion of NFS in the blog. And that is how NFS began to be discussed in the blog.
