Today (1 March 2025) is the 83rd birthday of Indrani Mukherjee (born on March 01, 1942). I have watched some of her 1960s’ films mostly having pious and graceful roles. She was born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) in a Bengali Brahmin family. Her father was a doctor and her mother, a housewife. She did her early schooling in Allahabad and completed her high school studies in Kolkata. From her childhood, she was interested in Hindi films.

Mukesh and his Composers – 34
Do Badan (1966) song “Raha gardishon mein hardam” was first recorded in the voice of Mukesh for Ghunghat (1960), which belonged to the production house of Gemini Studios.
The producer S. S Vasan felt that the song was not aligning with the flow of the film and he recommended its exclusion.
Six years later, composer Ravi took permission from S. S Vasan and included the song in the film Do Badan, in the voice of Rafi. Of course, the said song as well as all others in Do Badan (1966) did become quite popular. But sadly, the unused Mukesh version is probably lost forever. According to some sources, composer Ravi was said to be in possession of the spool recording of this unused Mukesh song, but unfortunately, it was lost in the Mumbai floods of 2005. Thus, the only place where there is a remote possibility of this song being traced is Gemini Studios, the production house of Ghunghat (1960).

Mukesh and his Actors – 05
——————————————–
In my previous post, I had let the cat out of the bag by revealing the next actor’s name in this series.
Well, Mukesh has sung some 19-20 odd songs for Shashi Kapoor. The number is seemingly quite less, but that’s the story of Mukesh for most of his contemporary actors for whom he gave playback.

Mukesh and his Co-Singers –13
————————————————
My last post on Mukesh and his Actors – 04 featured Feroz Khan wherein, in the penultimate para of the post, I made a mention of taking up yet another popular actor for whom Mukesh gave playback. When I prepared the list, I was pleasantly surprised to find more than one song of the actor’s association with Mukesh is yet to be covered and hold your breath… including the last song that Mukesh sang before he left the country for a concert in August 1976 and never returned.

Mukesh and his Actors – 03
———————————————
It was 1967, nearly 3 decades since Mukesh started singing in HFM. Yet, his mettle was again put to test. The film was Milan (1967) for which the production house of L. V. Prasad, decided to rope in emerging composer duo Laxmikant Pyarelal (LP). This was in spite of their successful association with Shankar Jaikishan for Chhoti Bahen (1959), Sasural (1961), Hamrahi (1963), Beti Bete (1964) etc.

Mukesh and his Co-Singers –12
————————————————-
The decade of 70’s saw many new playback singers try their talent and luck in establishing themselves in HFM. Quite a few of them were successful and one prominent singer amongst them is Anuradha Paudwal. The very name brings to memory her popular stint in singing filmi and NFS especially bhajans. Her works are well documented and available on the net. The wiki page on her has detailed description regarding her career, awards etc. As such, I shall skip writing on her works.

Mukesh and his Co-Singers –11
————————————————
Having covered the songs of Mukesh under the composition of Usha Khanna, I was always curious to list the duets of Usha Khanna and Mukesh.
No, it is not just picking up the duets from the table in the above post as they also sang under other composers; albeit quite a few songs.

Mukesh and his Actors – 02
——————————————–
“Jumping Jack” Jeetendra is the protagonist of today’s post on Mukesh and his actors on screen.
Regarding singers giving playback to Jeetendra, arguably, Mukesh may not be the first name that comes to the mind like he does for Raj Kapoor, Manoj Kumar etc. But, if one looks at the initial part of his acting career, Mukesh looms large and that too with multiple genres of songs which remain popular to this day.
