Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 14

Continuing my series, I come to the 14th song – “Reshma Mera Naam Hai” sung by the ever versatile Asha Bhosle. This song is penned and composed by Ravindra Jain for the movie Toofan released in 1975.

It was directed by Kedar Kapoor for ‘Sargam Pictures (Pvt.) Ltd., Bombay’. The movie had Vikram Makandar, Priyadarshini, Roopesh Kumar, Jagdeep, B.M. Vyas, Jeevan, Jayraj, Trilok Kapoor, Sajjan, Rajan Haksar, Abhijit Sen, Rajan Kapoor, Kirti Kumar, Shetty, V. Gopal, Shriram, Ramlal, Vijay Khanna, Urmila Bhatt, Praveen Pal, Meena T., Bhanumati, Sujata and others.

1982 color film ‘Trikon Ka Chautha Kon’ was produced, written and directed by Madhusudan. The main actors in the film are Vijayendra Ghatge, Swaroop Sampat and Priyadarshani who formed the triangle of the story. The film has four songs, written by Mahadevi Varma, Shahryar and Maya Govind, which are set to music by our genius Jaidev. In an earlier post, it was written that the film has only three songs, but the singer of the forth song Chhaya Ganguli, herself told me that her song “Kaise Un Ko Paaun Aalee” was definitely recorded for this film only and may be, was later removed from the DVD, VCD or video cassette.

An out and out theatre person who seemed to have stepped on to the silver screen by accident. My first introduction to Dinesh Thakur was when I went to see a stage play in Delhi. I was in school, and the book-reading bug had bit me big time. I was devouring books by the dozen almost on a weekly basis. I got introduced to a wide variety of written genres and authors. In the midst of this, one stream was reading stage plays. Of course, started with the Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer’s Night Dream’ which was part of our English curriculum. I picked up books of plays written by western authors, and then also got interested in reading plays by Indian authors.

Dinesh Thakur (8 august 1947 – 20 september 2012) was an actor in Hindi movies who was active from 1970s to 1990s. He was seen in movies like Mere Apne (1971), Anubhav (1971), Rajnigandha (1974),Parinay (1974), Kalicharan (1976), Ghar (1978), Naiyya (1979), Griha Pravesh (1979), The Burning Train (1980) etc. In addition, he also wrote the story and screenplay of “Ghar” (1978). “Ghar” (1978) won the Filmfare award for best story.
