I have posted two songs of contrasting moods from ‘Bandi” (1957) in the past. One was a comedy song, and the other was a poignant song. Both were sung by Kishore Kumar and picturised on himself.

One tends to associate Raj Kapoor’s movies of 1950s and 1960s with Shankar Jaikishan’s music, but there are quite a few Raj Kapoor movies even in those days which had music by other music directors.

“Anjaan” (1956) was a movie starring Pradeep Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala. As far as I am concerned, I was not aware of this movie till now, now was I aware of the songs of this movie.

Wow! What a song this one is. I have been listening to this song for a long time. In my younger days, when I disliked “old” songs, I still subconsciously felt that this song was special. And now that I have no such dislikings, I find that this song is an incredibly melodious song.

“Dharti” (1970) was one of the last movies in which both Rajendra Kumar and Waheeda Rehman were seen in lead roles. By this time both had begun to show their ages and were soon upstaged by younger and fresher faces.

The present generation of people are aware that India became an independent country in 1947 and a democracy in 1950, but it is difficult for them to imagine the changes, trannsformations, upheavals and paradigm shifts that the general poplulation had to suffer in the earlier years of this newly independent nation.

Listen to this song and one may think that this is an O P Nayyar composition. I thought so too. But when I found out the details of this song, I found that this song was composed by Madan Mohan.
