It was pointed out to me by readers that songs of “Khandaan” (1965) were conspicuous by their absence in the blog. Not just that, I was gently given the hint to discuss the songs of this movie with the lyrics of songs to this movie being e mailed to me. I have succumbed to the persuasion 😀 and as many as two songs from this movie have been discussed in the blog so far.

I have mentioned in the past that I believed Nutan to be the original tragedy queen, before Meena Kumari joined in playing such roles. This song is remininscent of several other Rafi- dev Anand songs and one may guess that this song is composed by S D Burman. But surprise, surprise ! This song is not composed by S D Burman. This song is a Madan Mohan composition !

Lata was Madan Mohan’s female singer of choice, but it does not mean that he has not used other female singers in his songs. Curiously enough, Madan Mohan did not use the voice of Lata in the movie called “Bombay Race Course” (1965). The female singers in this movie were Asha Bhonsle and Suman Kalyanpur.

“Chhaliyaa” (1960) is a well known movie. In comparison, few people have heard of “Chhaliyaa” (1973). This movie had Navin Nischol, and an ageing Nanda, and the movie failed to achieve any great success at the box office.
